I am curious as to what other's have or will have on their incisions after surgery - stitches, staples, or skin glue?

I had skin glue and now, one week post-op it's itching like craaaaaazy as well as peeling off. My port incision is completely uncovered now!

I hope my doctor doesn't get mad at me tomorrow when I go in for my post-op. I didn't pull the stuff off, it just started peeling off. Oops!

I have staples and makes me look like frankenstein! I hope it doesn't hurt when I get them out! My post op is today, so we will see!

We were told to expect Steristrips. Don't know if there is skin glue as well or not.

steri-strips -- not sure if anything else. I am to remove the dressings the day after surgery and can shower that day too. I was told to expect that the strips would curl up and fall off after one week or so.

I would be very suprised if they used staples as its in an area that is obviusly important to a woman.. its not like being on a leg is it! I would question this at pre op Clerkrig//

From experience Glue and Steristrips are the Most common form that is being used to day and is cosmetically much more acceptable..

Even Sutures (Stitches are a bit Old Hat!):rolleyes2:

My ADVICE is to keep the wounds as dry as possible and then after a week the strips will probably come off as long as the wound is dry.. Steristrips can be removed, and wounds left open if clothing rubs just cover with cotton adherent dressing.. otherwise any infection they would be better off having a fresh dressing applied daily plus antibiotocs or alternate days and a visit to the Nurse if not already doing so.....:rolleyes2:

Is there anyone who has a reaction to adhesives?

If so, what did they use on you?

I'm curious what options I'll have, since I don't think the glue will be possible.

I would say then in your case SUTURES but the wounds will not heal as well as steristrips/glue, the wounds are a lot less noticeable when healed just a straight line.

Sutures will leave more of a Scar, unless they use nylon continuous.. but these these tend to be used on larger gaping wounds ie Hysterectomy.

Hope this Helps:redface:

I have a reaction to the tape, but not the glue or steri strips. Not sure what the difference is.

Staples and sutures on the skin level are your only choice if you choose not to use the glue option.

Steristrips are tiny pieces of adhesive strips that are placed across a wound in the opposite direction to hold the sides of the wound together.. 7/10 days the wound should if kept covered and Dry heal up very nicely..

Obviously if you are allergic to adhesivie, Elastoplast or similar its not for you...

Staples Sutures are the only alternative Options..

But as already mentioned tend to leave a little more scarring.

*sigh*

i figured that was probably the answer i'd get. hehe

i've never had any experience with steri-strips, so i guess i was hoping they were more hypo-allergenic than the adhesives in other products.

ah well. even scars are better than fat rolls.

Dont worry about it ask your surgeon see what he suggests you can always give the steristrips a try providing the wound is a smaller one, I understand there are 5 wounds in all, take a look at some of the Pictures people have put online, from experience with patients they are normally ok, any probs they just peel off and possibly could be Hypo allergenic.. the glue however can be a bit "Iffy"

Good Luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
