I have glue, and I'm somewhat confused about it. Will it just start coming off on its own? If so, when can I expect to see it escaping? ;P

The Glue is basically used to hold the wound edges together so they start heal and knit without too much scarring.. the glue will just peel off by its self.. you must keep the wound Dry for as long as possible for Best results...

Staples are removed with a Staple clip remover and can be a little uncomfortable but it doesnot Hurt. I have removed Many in my time as a Nurse...

Dont worry about it ask your surgeon see what he suggests you can always give the steristrips a try providing the wound is a smaller one, I understand there are 5 wounds in all, take a look at some of the Pictures people have put online, from experience with patients they are normally ok, any probs they just peel off and possibly could be Hypo allergenic.. the glue however can be a bit "Iffy"

Good Luck!

I go in today for my pre-op, so I'm gonna ask my doc about this. If he suggests steri-strips, I'm gonna see if they'll let me have one now to test for a reaction. I'd rather know BEFORE they put them on an open wound if I am allergic to them! I'm thinking that if he decides to take my gallbladder at the same time (which I'm hoping he will), then I might have an extra, or a bigger incision, which is the part I'm mostly concerned with at this point.

Thanks for the info!

Yes You can do a sort of patch Test first...

Hmmmmmm I would be very suprised if the Doc does a Cholesystectomy ( Gallbladder Op )at the same time ... but they may do things differently in the USA as you are having an Op anyway.. HERE in the Uk they wouldn't do that...

Good Luck to You.. Will be a Low Fat Diet for you then !!!

My surgery was 5/11/09 and my gallbladder was also removed. I have 4 small scars including one by the inside edge of the belly button. He used glue and sterile strips. The strips fell off and I was told to keep the scabs dry. Not to put anything on it.

Hi John

I guess it makes sense to do it all in one foul swoop...

Cosmetic surgery would only be done under certain circumstances here in the Uk as a Gastic Band is done mainly for that puropose.. Gallbladder comes under major Surgery under the NHS. Best of Luck to You ..you will be feeling so much better after all that! Wounds will be fine yep keep them Dry:thumbup:...

Good luck today Juniper! I just came from the office.

In my doctor's case, he did use glue but I did NOT have to keep it dry. He told me I could take a shower the day after surgery, which I did. He said just not to scrub the incisions, but the Water could run over them.

Now 2 weeks the glue is all off and my incisions look great!

awesome!! so glad to hear you're healing well!

i have a whole list of questions to ask my doc. i'm sure he's going to get a little sick of me, but then again, maybe he'll realize how serious i am about this!

Well as its Glue it is more than likely it's semipermeable and more Water friendly than Sutures or Staples.. However from experience with dressing wounds I would vouch to keep the wound as dry as possible this would help the healing process and be subject less infections.

Well, I asked my doc, and he said it would be under the skin stitches, and glue. He says he's never seen a reaction to the glue, so he thinks I'll be okay.

Oh, and I asked him about putting stuff on the incisions afterwards if it itches, and he said not for the first few days, because most stuff will try to break down the glue. After a few days, I can put benadryl cream or something like that, but he still recommended not putting it directly on the glue area.

I think I have stitches, whatever it is, is MIGHTY uncomfortable, and needs to be cleaned, if only I can get the air-tight bandage off...

Well I was expecting sterri strips but I didn't get them grrrrrr. I got dissolvable stitches which are great but they put tape over the incisions - one of them came off easy but they said to take them off after a week so I did and it was nerve racking, I was working up a sweat because I didn't want to pull any of the scab or anything off, and then when I was taking the one off the port I kinda pushed on the port and it was sore for the rest of the day. Grrrrrrrrrr - But now I'm good lol - 2 weeks postop tomorrow =)

Edit* I wasn't told to keep them dry, just make sure I cleaned them with soap and Water. I put the soap on my hands and softly go over the incisions and them wash it off. Then I use bio - oil because I'm a slow healer and they seem to be healing pretty good thankfully

I've had a reaction in the past to the tape so my Dr applied glue and I've been fine. It's been 2 weeks and all the glue just fell over the weekend.

I had skin glue on May 5 and it did really well on the port opening but the camera opening kind of pulled apart. I went to see him for my first fill on June 1 and he said it was normal and to just put neosporin on it. I feel much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
