I am interested in hearing the responses . I too, started taking a multi Vitamin that I swallow - - I keep meaning to ask surgeon if there are reasons other than not being able to keep it down.

My surgeon orginally suggested taking 2 chewable flinstone Vitamins. When I ran out I bought the regular adult multi Vitamin.

I have heard also that people shouldn't take motrin - - not sure why.

I use Centrum chewables instead...not bad tasting. Also Oscal Chewables for a Calcium supplement...not bad either. Some use Viative chewables for calcium and Vitamins, but the Centrum and Oscal is less expensive and I don't mind the taste. You may want to give it a try. Wally world carries it as do alot of pharmacies.

The reason for liquids or chewables is not that you might have a problem keeping a tablet down but that it might not pass easily. If you're not having a problem, that's great. Just bear in mind that at or close to your sweet spot, you could have a problem.

I am 13 days post op and have been taking the chewable vitimans the doctor supplied but will look for something to swallow when that runs out. I can not stand liquid/chewable stuff due to the taste! I am one of those that asks the doc for a pill for cough. :smile2:

I have been taking the Calcium petites and am not having an issue with them. They were recommended by the nutritionist. My doc and nutritionist wants us to take calcium citrate because it is easier to absorb. They go down easy and so far are not causing issues. I do have a mild restriction so I do not take them with meals.

The reason not to take Advil or any non steroidal pain reliever(aleve etc) is because the pills sit in the pouch - a much smaller area- and they are very stomach toxic. If there is a medical reason to take them the doc can perscribe a stomach 'protectant' like carafate or some such.

Hope this helps and does not sound preachy. :tt2:

I'm a few months post op and I take a Flintstones chewable with Iron. Works out pretty well for me. My mother-in-law is a few years post op from a RNY surgery and she does the same thing. Honestly...they taste like iron...but it's easier than swallowing a big Vitamin.< /p>

Still taking my daily Multivitamin, what was your concern against pills? Is your restriction too high to allow it to pass?

I have heard also that people shouldn't take motrin - - not sure why.

I think that only applies to bypass patients, though on my discharge papers it said "Don't take iburpofen and continue to take ibuprofen on consecutive lines. There were a few things on my discharge papers that were specific to bypass patients, I guess they use the same forms for both.

I had to take a chewable Vitamin and Calcium the first 2 weeks after surgery, now I'm back to regular tablets. My surgeon said the regular tablets were fine to take. I've only had 1 fill, so with more restriction they may not be so easy to take, but for now they work fine!

I actually asked my surgeon this last night at our support group meeting. He said that after our post op swelling goes down then we can go back to regular pills (granted I was asking more along the lines of antibiotics since I am on a liquid one now...YUCK). he said that even if it does get stuck for a little while your stomach acid will continue to digest it and then when it melts a little it should slip right thru. But he still does not recomment capsules unless absolutely necessary.

I take a multi-Vitamin and a Calcium pill--I've had three fills and no problem taking pills.

The thread title looked (at first) like "The Pill" as a supplement, I was going to look in here to see what they were putting in the pill nowadays!

I just got some of the One-A-Day mix that you add to Water... You might try that. I found it at Walgreens.

It's not um... the best thing I have ever had but it's OK I guess. It's better than the Centrum liquid that I got, bleh!

The other day on the news they interviewed a doctor who was talking about Vitamins and she said that the gummy vitamins are actually better for you than the chalky ones because they get into your system more than the others. She said that your body doesn't even absorb all of Vitamins ever, but these do a bit more. I wonder if that's true?

It sounded interesting, and I think once I get on the actual eating phase of my post-op I am going to get some gummies!

I'm 3days post op and taking supradyn (lemon flavoured multivitamin), It's dissolvable so I put it in Water then add benefibre and I can't drink it all - Mainly because it takes like crap, day after I had surgery the nurses brought me in a Multivitamin to take - was worried about tablets but haven't had issues with them, I've been taking paracetemol (2 tablets at a time). I'm going to start looking at taking Centrum tho because I'm over taking 2 hours to drink my multi

Pill form is a problem as you get restriction b/c they WILL get stuck! I had an emergency unfill after getting my (small) BP pill stuck and throwing up for 36hrs! NOT FUN!!! I quarter it in order to take it.

As far as Vitamins go - I take the children's gummies. I buy bulk at costco (lg bottle). I take 2 in the AM and 2 in the afternoon/evening and all my blood work comes back great so I must be doing something right. I also get the costco brand (Kirkland) calcium chews. They're sugar free too!

chewable or liquid form is also better absorbed from what I understand.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
