My surgery is tomorrow and I'm really nervous.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I don't know why but I'm super nervous about tomorrow. I have been reading everyone's stories and most of my fears have been relieved but I made the mistake of going onto youtube and watching the surgery. For everyone who's had the surgery how do you feel? Is it just my surgeon or does everyone get an empty band? I won't have my first fill until week 3. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance....

And i am so excited :smile2:

Maybe i wont feel so excited after its over, but i just cant wait to get it over with.

I lost 10 pounds on my preop and that just got me more thrilled. just think we are starting a new journey in our life.

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous about the surgery, but once it's done, you'll be amazed at how easy a recovery you'll have. I was up and walking 1 hour after coming out of recovery. Pain was minimal, and the drugs were great!

You'll come through it just fine.

Most people have their band inserted empty, I've heard of having a minimal amount of Fluid in the band when installed, but I think that's pretty rare.

Good luck tomorrow!!!!!

I just had surgery yesterday, and I was very nervous beforehand. However, the medical staff was all very professional and sensitive and (suprisingly cheerful at 5a.m.!). My surgery went well, and I had really expected to be in more pain-- it's not too bad. I'm a bit more sore today than yesterday right after surgery though, but I didn't even take pain meds except before bed last night.

You'll do just fine-- chin up and you'll be so happy once it's done!

Everyone at the hospital was super-supportive and they try to make you feel more comfortable.

After your pre-op preparation, they wheel you into the operating room, and then before you know it you wake up in recovery. The anesthesia made me feel a bit sick, but not for long, and I was able to sleep once they took me to my room. My doctor discharged me by 3pm.

My sister and I are also scheduled for tomorrow. We are both really nervous but so excited at the same time. I know this is expected and I'm thankful for all the positive feedback I get by reading everyone's stories. I'm also glad that we are doing this together and will have each other for support.

We have to stay overnight at the hospital and we are anxious to get it over with and get back home to our families.

Good Luck to all of us tomorrow!!!!

I made the mistake of going onto youtube and watching the surgery.

I also watched the video on youtube, and it made me feel better after watching it. I realized it really wasn't that invasive a surgery, it wasn't a bloody, horrific thing, and it really helped me relax about it. My 5-year old and 3-year old watched it too (after I was sure it wasn't going to scare them) and it helped ease their minds. They knew what was going to happen, and knew what to expect afterwards. (Mommy's going to be sore and have boo-boo's, no Mommy won't feel it when they do it, etc.)

Try to think of it as educational, informed consent. Because really, how much more informed can you be? :crying: And remember, you won't feel or see or even remember any of it. So even with that knowledge, there's also a sense of "I know they did that to me, but I don't remember so it's okay."

Don't stress it! Most everyone does great afterwards. And it's the next step to a healthier you!

My first fill won't be until week 5. I think it's pretty normal to get an empty/mostly empty band. It's so our stomachs can get used to something being there and letting everything heal before they start putting in saline for restriction.

Hang in there, we're all rooting for you!

good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow! I did not have a fill and am not scheduled to get one until June 16th. I was hoping for sooner! I had surgery May 6th. I'm down 9 lbs in just 1 week!

I watched the video on youtube and it made me feel better before my surgery. It amazed me how quick, really, the whole procedure is. I never had surgery before and was scared out of my mind before "going under". HA, soooo easy. Everyone who is having surgery tomorrow good luck and you all will do great. Remember that the pain you may or may not feel WILL pass and you will not regret your decision. Good luck and let us know how you are doing afterwards. Oh yeah, my doc left my band unfilled and will not fill until at least 7 weeks.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
