Is anyone losing their hair?

Recommended Posts

It appears as if I am losing my hair at a faster rate than before being banded. I eat about 80 grams of protien daily on an average. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I lost alot of hair on the Atkins diet...but found that Biotin seems to help. I use the 5000 mg capsule and pull it apart to blend it in with a Protein drink in the morning or skim milk instead of swallowing the capsule.

More than likely you are going to experience a bit of Hair loss to some degree, but make sure you are getting a balanced diet, your required Proteins, and aim for 1000-1200 calories a day in order to keep your body from going into "starvation" mode. I'm not in the medical field...just giving you some info from what I've learned from my doctor's office and others.

Some people lose hair because of rapid weight loss. Balanced diet, Protein, Vitamins, and Biotin (you can get capsules pretty cheap at walmart) will help. You can expect the hair to begin to regrow after a time. It all depends on the individual. Just don't worry about it. Better to lose hair and lose weight than to keep your hair and gain weight. Right?

I'm losing my hair - quickly :smile2:

I've tried the Biotin, Rogaine, Vitamins, and nothing has helped. I called and spoke to my dietician yesterday and there are some "newer" studies that link female Hair loss with low Iron levels, especially your ferritin level. Your normal range in 20-230. So in all, if your ferritin is 25 it's normal but the study suggests women to have a level of at least 70. I've called my PCP and I have an appt to have some lab work done to check my iron. I'll let you know how that goes.

When you get a chance, google female hair loss and iron levels, there's a lot out there.

Just an idea,

Stephanie:blush:

surprisingly, just yesterday!

One on the NP's I work with told me to get some plain Gelatin and take it like a shot every day.

I'll try ANYTHING (almost:tt2:)

I started losing my hair at nine months out from surgery. BIG clumps. My hair is now very thin and wispy, but I've noticed (now 18 months out) that I have a halo of new growth. It looks ridiculous at the moment, but at least it's growing back. I've been taking 500 grams of Biotin every day for the last 5 months. My hairdresser and my doctor recommended it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
