How long did you all wait to go back to work after the surgery? I am curious because I am having mine done next week and don't want to be out of work too long.

Most people are off a week or two, some more, some less. Your surgeon should be able to tell you how quickly his patients recover. It also depends on what type of work you do.

Ok, cause I'm looking at take five days off. Actually, thats all I can take without pushing my surgery date out more. I am a medical assistant so I am on my feet all day. 10-12 hours a day doing vitals, injections, and sutures.

Hi there,

I had surgery last wednesday and recovery hasn't been smooth sailing, but I did start back to work part time this week. I have an office desk job and am working from 10-2 about all I can manage then back home to rest. It's really up to you and how you feel.

Good luck with everything!!!!!

Depending on how in shape you are and so on 5 days may not be enough. In my doc's office most nurses take at least a week off. I was a nursing student when I had the band done and had an easy easy surgery and recovery but wouldn't have been ready to work as you describe in 5 days.

I have a desk job. Everything went really well for me. I had my surgery on Thurs and went back to work the following Tues. I felt fine. I guess it's like they say everyone is different. I even went and got my hair done and a pedicure 2 days after the surgery. Was considering going to a birthday party but I think I would having been pushing my luck.

I went back to work after a week. I have a desk job. The first day back was alittle rough. I guess the sititng staight up put pressure on my incisions. I wished I had taken off two week instead but, it didn't kill me.

I'm a Nurse Aide on a heart bypass/trauma unit and my Doctor made me take off two weeks so that I didn't get a hernia from lifting patients.

I had my surgery on May 22nd. I am so glad I scheduled 2 weeks off as I am so tired. I could not go back to work in 1 week. This has really surprised me. I usually bounce right back from surgery. I've been feeling like a whimp for being so tired. I have a desk job (sedentary). Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Hey. I'm doing great. Lost 14 pounds and feeling amazing. I went back to work 2 days post op and felt great. Alittle sore and tired, but no pain. Things have been wonderful since. How are you doing?

I am patiently awaiting my surgery. 4 days to go. That is great that you lost lbs so far. I can't wait until I can say that. I am planning to take off two weeks, they go back to work for 1 week and then it is my vacation.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
