NDgirl 0 Posted May 13, 2009 I am 36 years old, prediabetic (and gestational diabetes) high cholesterol, high BP and stess incont. My BMI is 36. I got a letter today saying I have been denied. HELP!!! I need some sound advice and encouragement!!!!!!
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted May 13, 2009 You need to find out WHY you were denied and then address those points. It's often just a paperwork snafu; most of them are infamous for quibbling over dotted i's and crossed t's when it comes to lap band surgery.
NDgirl 0 Posted May 13, 2009 BCBS said that lap band was not medicaly nessasary for me.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted May 13, 2009 Then you need to find out what they consider "medically necessary" and prove that your are. Your experienced surgeon should be able to help you; I have different ins. but my surgeon has an employee who just handles insurance for us! See if your doc can help. NDgirl 0 Posted May 13, 2009 I apprecaite the advice. BCBS has not seen the last of me!!!
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted May 13, 2009 Good; don't give up if you want the procedure. It should be illegal how some insurance companies drag their feet and "never get" files etc!
bobbiezhere 0 Posted May 13, 2009 Yes, it sounds like with your symptoms you should qualify! Mine denied me at first, but only because i had to go through other steps (nutrition classes ) FIRST....before they would approve the lapband...just cuz they say "no" - doesnt mean its over---ask questions, get your doctor involved too! Good luck!
