headin_to_mxico 0 Posted June 10, 2009 do you have to have a passport these days to go to Mexico? Where in Mexico are you having surgery? Trisha Im going to Monterrey MX. I dont think you need a passport if you drive accross the boarder, I think you just need an ID and a birth cert. But if you fly you do need one. A lot of band Drs are right accross the boarder in TJ so people can drive in; but my Dr is in Monterrey so I cant drive there. It took me about three weeks to get my pass port and it cost an extra 60$ to rush it. I think its like 12 weeks or something for regular processing time. Gosh the government is never fast about anthing! :cursing:
StephOinAZ 0 Posted June 10, 2009 Yay!!! That's exciting, now you have one HUGE stress taken care of. I remember when I was waiting for my passport for a vacation and I never really felt like we were going until I finally got it in the mail. So now you must feel so much better that you've crossed that bridge :cursing:
AU09 0 Posted June 19, 2009 I’m having my surgery also on June 25 in Tj, Mexico by Dr. Ortiz at the OCC. He was highly recommended for cost, low BMI, and professionalism. Also, it was said in previous post that you don’t have to have a passport if your traveling by land, but that has changed since June 1, 2009, regardless if you have a birth certificate and a state ID. I personally wouldn’t chance going anywhere outside of the U.S. without a passport, its just not worth not coming back in the U.S.

Now you have to have a passport to cross at all. I live very near the Mexican border. If I'm just crossing to go get a bottle of vanilla, I still have to have the passport.
