Recommended Posts

I was banded on 4/27,and I know it is almost time for my cycle, but I wanted something sweet so bad yesterday..ate 1/4 cup of lowfat ice cream, and then after 3 soft scrambled eggs this morning I feel like i haven't eaten ANYTHING!! I have also gained 2 lbs. Does anyone

have a sample diet plan that works for them? I see the nurse on the 18th...worried and it's hard enough keeping my head up with hubby in Iraq:confused:.

I'm thinking you don't have a fill yet. And that's part of it, for sure. You have no restriction. This is white-knuckle time, unfortunately. Any limitations on eating are strictly willpower until you start getting those fills.

Good luck

Your band is your tool and it is up to you on what you do with it. If you eat foods that you are not suppsed to be eating then you will not lose much weight. If you eat the right foods and work out it will do amazing things. I hear of so many people that get banded and the next week they are eating at pizza buffets and lasagna and they wonder why they are not losing weight. Fight your temptations and thow away any bad foods that you may have in your house. If you feel like a snack grab a strawberry or a grape instead of chips or crackers. Eat chicken and fish instead of hamburger or steak. If you take the yolk out of your eggs you are saving 5 grams of fat! But the egg white has just as much protein! :mad2: You may want to get a fill if you feel that you are needing one. I am not the biggest expert on fills. I have only had one and I am 8 months post op. I hope this will help you fight your temptations! Hang in there. Best wishes to you! :D

I know exactly how you feel. I agree it feels as if we went through and now think "What the - - - - ?" but we do have to wait until we get our fill and hope that with that and better eating habits this will work for us too. I was banded 4/9 and I have a fill next week and I can not wait. I sure hope that this gives me restriction because my will power is not the best or I would not be where I am today. Hang in there, that is what I am doing.

My dietician put me on a schedule to eat 3 meals every 4 hours. She also told me that if I feel like i have been eating all day then she will know for sure i am following the diet plan correctly. If i feel like i have not eaten hardly anything, then she told me this is a sign of not properly following her diet. All Dr.'s and dietitians are different I would consult your bariatric surgeon and dietician to see if they can put you on a schedule.

I hope all is well with your Hubby in Iraq, as well as your weight loss!

Pudgy. I know how you feel about not knowing what to eat etc. I am 7 months out and have had a few fills/unfills etc. I am once again in bandster hell. My doctor says we keep overshooting or undershooting my sweet spot, but we're working on it. I asked him about a specific diet and he says everyone is different and has to find their own comfort zone. I did find this website that I liked, but you may also try others to see what works for you. this one has a Gastric band food pyramid that is cool, but you need to find your own comfort zone. So good luck and don't get discouraged.

It is strange to me to see people posting that they have doctors that don't give them any kind of specific pre-op or post-op diets. I don't know how to do a poll, but it would be interesting to know how many of us are in programs that involve working with a nutritionist before and/or after surgery. I am pre-op still, if my doctor told me you need to lose X amt of pounds before surgery, but did not give me any guidelines, I would be lost.

Call your doctors office and ask them what they want you to eat. You're probably still on mushies since you're only about 3 weeks out.

This is what I eat usually. First thing in the morning I have a Protein shake (Atkins) because I'm too tight for food that early. Then about 9 or 9:30 I'll have 4 oz. low fat cottage cheese. lunch is usually a couple oz. of whatever meat we had for dinner the night before along with 3-4 oz. veggies. Then in the afternoon I'll either drink a Protein Shake or have a Protein Bar (drs orders due to exercise regimen). dinner is usually lean Protein (meat) and veggies or salad. If I get hungry later, I'll have cheddar cheese or cottage cheese. If I get a craving for something, I eat it. I found that if I try NOT to eat it I'll consume way more calories than if I'd eaten it in the first place. I hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
