2 weeks post op and frustrated.

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op and the first week, due to the liquid diet, i lost a couple of pounds but haven't lost since then and am getting frustrated...at this point, im in the mushy stage but i find that i dont feel any restriction and can pretty much eat whatever i want...of course i dont, but i dont feel that full feeling and may be eating more than i should...anyway, the weight is not goign down and i dont go in for a fill for 3 more weeks and im afraid that once im off the mushy stage and can eat regular, i might actually gain instead of lose...i want to see results already but its just not happening...is this what they call bandster hell? anyone have any advice?

RELAX! You are still healing, whether you realize it or not. But you have arrived in an uncomfortable time.....you can eat more and more "normal" things and as you leave the liquid diet behind, yes, you may gain and lose the same couple of pounds more than once. It's the beginning of bandster hell. You should not be expecting great losses during this period. It does happen for some but it's the exception, rather than the rule.

Use this time to start exercising but starting out walking every day and adding to the distance as you feel you can. Work on taking small bites (about the size of a quarter) and chewing really well .... and work on eating without drinking during the meal.

Once you get a couple of fills, you'll be better able to stick with "the plan" and the pounds will start to come off more and more steadily.

This is totally bandster hell and it is just the beginning. After I went to mushies my weight loss stalled. I had to start walking to get it to move again. SO, if you havent done that yet, start walking at a good pace for at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a day. You body was in starvation mode, existing on a really low number of calories...and now you are feeding it a little more...it will take time to adjust.

Dont give up. Stick to the rules. Drink your water! Get your Protein, and move. Once your body figures out what in the hell is going on, things will get better. Even after you get your first fill, you may not feel restriction...and still have to rely on willpower! It took me 3 pretty aggressive fills until I felt restriction!

You can do this!

I am 2 weeks post op too and have only lost about 6 pounds I really thought that it would more than this too I guess our bodies just have to adjust to what is going on?? Im still on the liquid phase for 2 more weeks I am so tired of Jello and popsicles I could scream! lol well I wish you luck I hope it gets better! Hang in there

I thought I was the only one. I've been post op for 2 1/2 wks and only lost 7 pounds. It's so discouraging. I thought I would have lost more. I, too, don't feel that much restriction. Although, I'm feeling pain in my right shoulder. I'm not sure if that's associated with the lap band.

The pain in your shoulder is more than likely gas. Try putting a heating pad on it when you're watching TV or lying in bed. I think too many doctors don't bother to tell their patients that they may not lose anything at all, or very little, in the first few weeks after surgery. I think it creates an unnecessary sense of disappointment or feeling of failure. You are perfectly normal to be where you are, losing what you've lost. Your first fill almost certainly won't take you to your sweet spot, but it will be a start. Go ahead and schedule the appointment for your second fill while you are in the doc's office. That way you have it, and can look forward to it.

Amy is right - be patient - the first 6 weeks for me were within 4 pounds of each other... until I started getting fills, I wasn't seeing as much weight loss. It will come though - let your body heal and trust the process!

I'm down almost 35 in less than 3 months from my surgery. At first I thought it would be more, but I'm VERY happy with the process, because unlike before, it isn't coming back on!!!

hmm...you know I was under the impression that the first few weeks was really about healing and not about weight loss. Sure we do because of what we eat, but that wasnt to be the focus of it. So don't be discouraged by a few pounds - that's less than where we started after all.

Cathy - thank you for the advice regarding my right shoulder. I will certainly try the heating pad to alleviate the pain :)

I totally understand where you are coming from!! I was banded April 30 and sure enough my weight loss has stalled. I had lost 11 lbs from surgery to have gained 1lb back. I realize that this is a small gain and am grateful to have lost 10lbs. I also know that everyone has provided great advice (thank God), that this is normal and we should be focused on healing, but I want you to know I feel your frustration and think that it SUCKS! Sigh, sigh now we must survive "bandster hell" and trust that this will work eventually. I am scheduled to get a fill on May 26, but may try to move it up a week.

Hang in there!

Just joined this site. It is real interesting to see how everyone is doing. I am seeing that it will be kind of normal to stall at first.

I am also 2 weeks post Op. My head says I'm hungry but my stomach says no. Does anyone have problems with thirts? I feel thirsty all of the time but can only manage 5 sips and then I get this choking feeling. I thought liquids would be easy to consume.

I'm one week out, but I"m allowed to start mushy/soft foods on Tuesday -- it seems that many others say they can't for 2 weeks. Anyone else allowed to switch to Soft foods on day 8 after surg? Just wondering. . . My doc gave me all kinds of info and said that's the "plan" but I wonder if I should continue liquids just a bit longer (not that I want to!) but since I paid so much for this surgery-- I want to get the full benefit.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
