rmccmom 0 Posted May 12, 2009 I just joined this site. I am 50 lbs overweight and am considering the lapband. I have a consultation appointment on Thursday with Dr. Simpson in Phoenix, AZ. I'm nervous but desperate. I am in a senior management role with a Fortune 100 company where I am required to travel alot. The job is also stressful, hence why I'm so overweight. If anyone used Dr. Simpson I'd like to hear about your experience. Thank you.
ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted May 12, 2009 Just a comment ... if you expect your insurance to pay for lap band surgery for only 50 pounds, you may find that you don't qualify for the surgery unless you pay for it out-of-pocket. Insurance usually requires a BMI of 37 or higher AND two co-morbidities. Not always but almost always.
rmccmom 0 Posted May 12, 2009 Cathy, Thank you for your comments. You bring up good points. I am blessed to not to have to worry about insurance covering the procedure, but I have high cholesterol, borderline diabetes and thyroid disease and my physician contributes all to my weight. So I might be ok. Actually I am most concerned with the down time after surgery and the post-surgical diet. Thanks!
kkarryall 0 Posted May 12, 2009 You will probably do very well with the lapband as long as you research it and work hard. I was out of work for one week...recovery was not bad at all! The first two days were the worst--and honestly not that bad. The post surgical diet can be a pain...usually liquid for like a month I think and then purees for two weeks and finally solids. Good luck!
