LAp band in Tijuana Mexico

Recommended Posts

hello

has anybody been banded in Mexico, I have kaiser insurance, my doctor told me that I need to change my eating habits and do exercise. I do, but it doesn't help. Due to my financial situation I did research and Mexico offers the best deal.

help:confused::frown::confused:

Welll......Kaiser DOES offer Bariatric Surgery as part of its plan....although, perhaps YOUR particular plan may not have it, but I think all Kaiser Plans offer that coverage.

It's possible that your BMI or something else does not qualify you for WLS....

It may be that you are in that "zone" where you weigh more than you want, but not enough to qualify you for surgery.

If you do go to Mexico to get surgery (and people do) just make SURE you either 1. have the time and funds to go back frequently, at least the first year, for fills and checkups or 2. line up aftercare locally.

I've learned that aftercare (especially that pesky fill level) is VITAL to the success of the band. Getting it and no fills would be like buying a car but not being able to get gas for it. It won't do much for you if it doesn't run! :frown: Many many surgeons will not take on patients that they did not initially band so aftercare is a problem for Mexico bandsters. (or actually anyone banded anywhere away from home, here in the USA. You could go the next state over and still have issues locally; surgeons don't like to treat people who were not their patients originally. I guess they don't like dealing with someone else's problem.)

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
