How often do you weigh yourself?

I do not weigh myself at all!!! I wait until my monthly appointment with my doctor. And I always tell myself that I will be thrilled if I have lost 4 pounds in 1 month :mad2:

Ex-scale addict here. I used to weigh daily - in fact a year ago when I was "dieting" (yet again) I would weigh several times a day.

Now I weigh on Wednesdays (my official weigh in day), and step on for a quick peek on Saturdays just to make sure I'm heading the right direction for the week. I'm 2 months out from surgery and about 3 weeks out from my first fill. I'm finally beginning to trust the band and the process and think I'll be able to skip the Saturday check in soon.

If I remember correctly, it takes consuming 3500 additional calories to gain a pound, so anytime I stepped on the scale and was up 1-3 pounds in the past I would get frustrated thinking I had "gained" when most of the time it was just my body fluctuating. But, not knowing that would lead me to a cycle of, "We'll I've gained anyway, I might as well REALLY enjoy it" and lead to me stress eating. Now that I know that I just don't have the desire to put myself through seeing those fluctuations anymore!

While I'm enjoying seeing the scale numbers go down I'm trying to enjoy NSV's such as seeing how different my clothes fit, looking down and seeing my feet - not my stomach, enjoying the compliments I'm getting, and buying smaller sizes.

I really want the lapband process to be a different mindset for me, not a diet mentality - so for me it works best to keep off the scale as much as possible. But we are all different!!

I don't have a scale at home because I'd be tempted to make it more about the "numbers" than how I feel...so I weigh myself MWF when I go to the pool for my laps and aqua therapy exercises. The only problem I've found is that the pool scale is different from my doc, so monthly I feel like I've gained because his scale registers about 5 lbs different from any other I try ;-)
In that case, what I'd do is conclude that the doctor's office scale as 'inaccurate' and deem the pool scale as your 'true' weight! ; )

I got a book at my nutrition class all about the whole process of bariatric surgery. There is a section in it that has habits of successful habits of WLS patients --a list of Do's & Dont's. Anyway, weighing oneself everyday was promoted as a do. The rationale was that the patient would be awared of small weight gains and get on top of them before they became big gains. Until this past Thursday, I did not have a scale at home, so only ever weighed at doctor's appointments. Now that I have the scale at home I find myself weighing almost everyday. I am hesitant to trust what my at home scale says, until I have a better idea of the variation between it and the doctor's scale. I am trying to wait for my next appt on the 18th. My at home scale said I was down to 200 this morning :D. But since the only weight that "counts" is the one the doctor's scale registers, I am not touching the ticker yet. I hope there will not be a huge variation between my scale and the doc's. :mad2:

Sad to say yes i weigh myself every day in the morning after I use the bathroom...lol...I need to know day by day if I am still on track, I dont get upset if there is a gain of weight because i know what I am eating so its not going to be a surprice to me if I gain. But it does tell me hey you are slipping up here lets jump back on the ball and workout more...i want to stop a large gain before it gets out of hand and takes me more than a week or so to get it back off. i dont say that everyone should weigh themselve every day, i just do.

I officially weigh once a week, otherwise my normal fluctuations which you will have depress me.

I too am a daily weigher. It helps me to know if I did something wrong the day before. I don't think that it is necessarily a bad thing as long as you are not expecting to daily lose weight. Sometimes there is no loss for a few days, then one day there is a 2 pound loss.

My doctors scale is 7 lbs off of my scale at home too...it says I'm heavier, not lighter....that sucks, because I'm excited about what I've lost at home, then remember I have to add 7 lbs!

I weigh myself every morning, right after I wake up and potty! :)

Although I weigh every morning, I only use my Friday weight as an "official" weight for tracking purposes. Otherwise, it helps me know how to manage my day!

I weigh every morning after I potty, too! Aww now I'll be blessed to know that every morning, there are other bandsters out there doing the same routine. Heehee.

I don't use a traditional scale, though. I use the WiiFit. It keeps a graph of my progress and tracks how well I'm approaching my goals. Plus it reminds me to exercise. I love it.

FYI, scales on carpets tend to be off more than scales on hard floors. An indication if your scale is off because of being on a carpet is to weigh yourself several times, the value shouldn't vary that much. We bought a scale we really like from Sharper image.

Also a WII fit user for tracking. My doctor scale and home scale are close. WII has me 1-2 pounds lighter. I put a piece of plywood under the balance board and the readings got much more reliable.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
