Why am I eating so much?

Recommended Posts

OK- I know I will be banded next week. I'm not on a pre-op diet to jump start the weight loss. I've been eating everything in sight! I've never been a big eater, I just always ate the wrong things. Why is this happening? Is this some sort of mind thing where I'm thinking "I better eat it now because I won't be able to eat it later"?

I'm smack dab between Willowbrook & Greenspoint. If I leave my neighborhood the front way, I come out at BW8 & Veterans Mem. If I go out the back way I'm at BW8 & Bammel. I haven't had a chance to volunteer yet. My job sent out a mass email this morning saying they needed folks on weekdays, so they're giving us a "freebie" to go over there and it won't count against vac or sick.

It's generally referred to as 'last supper syndrome' here. There are heaps of us who ate everything in sight before being banded, because our heads said, "Oh, you better have that <INSERT here choice of food>cause you'll not be able to eat it after being banded.

Just try not to go overboard - there's only one item that I've found to be off limits to me since being banded (potato gnocchi). While each person varies in this, I'm able to have chicken, steak, bread (though I choose not to eat it), etc.

You'll do fine ;)

And try to remember its very bad for your health to let your weight yo yo wildly. Its actually quite stressful for your body to lose the amount of weight most people here have to lose/have lost, it has negative health side effects as well as positive ones so you want to make darn sure you only do it once.

I too had "last supper syndrome" - I was eating like a queen my last few weeks hitting every favorite restaurant I had. My last night was at a buffet - and actually that was it - one last hoo-rah - now when I go I just have a salad & breadstick or something although I was bad tonight and ordered a crab cake that i'm sure was loaded with fat and calories ;) Funny, I remembered it used to taste better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
