start 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow

Recommended Posts

I'm being banded day after Memorial Day. So tomorrow starts my 2 week pre-op diet. liquids of course, but it includes other things like yogurt and popsicles and things like that. Soups with no "stuff" in it (strained, or even things like Tomato Soup is ok).

I'm confused as to why this would have any bearing. They didn't care about fat or carb content, just chunks of food. Pretty much anything strained or clear or things without chunks of food in it. And I have to have 3 Protein Drinks a day - they said anything from Boost to Slimfast would be fine.

Anyone else on a similar diet? It just seems weird to me. But then again, i guess I'm not all that educated on how the liver works and what would make it shrink.

I am having surgery on May 19th and have been on a similiar diet since May 5th. Apparently it is supposed to reduce fat around your liver enabling the doctor to get the band around your stomach with less disturbance to your liver. However, I am convinced that this really enables us to get an idea of what we are signing up for. I have not been hungry once in the last week but I have really been aware of how often I think about putting food in my mouth. THis has been a HUGE eyeopener for me and it has shown me what I have committed to and signed up for. I am about half way through my 2 week pre-op diet and can't wait for May 19th! Good luck!!

I start my preop diet tomorrow (05/11/09) too! I have to do the induction phase of Atkins. I'm not dreading it to much being that I am looking forward to being able to eat these last two weeks. I'm going to take this time to concentrate on bite size and chewing..My surgery date is May 26 and I look forward to begining this journey with you all!

Hello,

I am new to this site and am seriously considering banding. I am having a hard time making a decision and wanted to know if any of you were having second thoughts.

I wish I was on the Atkins induction phase! Oh, to be able to chew something!!!

Liquids for 2 weeks is already driving me crazy. Basically everything is sweet except for chicken broth. It's all yogurt, frozen yogurt, Jello, pudding, popsicles, etc. broth is the only real Soup unless I want to strain it. I don't care for Tomato, tried it today but couldn't even get half a bowl down. Guess if I get hungry enough it may start to look better.

I am determined to stick to the diet though and not cheat.

Anyone else doing actual liquids? What about cheese soup? Campbells makes a cheddar cheese soup. I'm wondering if I can mix some of that with the tomato or broth to add some flavor.

I just started my 2 week pre op diet today. It's supposed to be all liquids, low sugar. But I don't really like sweet stuff that much and the list is all sweet stuff except for Water and 3 or fewer servings of milk, yogurt or cottage cheese.

I'm calling my doctor tomorrow and asking them what kinds of Soup I can have. I found some completely smooth Soups by V8 that look good: broccoli, butternut squash, Tomato and onion/mushroom. They're supposed to have a full serving of veggies but they have no chunks at all.

Great question about the V8 soups! I'll be sure to ask my doc as well!

AlaskaGirl77 and Comynara1 what did your Dr. say about the V8 Soups? ?? I started my pre-op liquid diet today and I am already consumed with the thought of food....this is going to be rough but I am determined to not cheat.

If you are on a liquid diet for a while, I'd recommend cooking a few different Soups and freezing them in individual ziplock containers. Soup is really easy to make and you can puree it in a blender. I have a few good recipes in my blog (butternut squash, zucchini, a yummy mexican chicken soup) if you're interested.

That helped me to keep things interesting on my post-op liquid diet. I didn't feel too denied, since I really liked the soups.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
