At little confused. I am starting to get compliments.. Wow Maranda, your looking good. Today my mom said to me Maranda you are getting skinny. Now I still have a long way to go. But Here is where I am confused. I am still in the same size clothes. So how can people say this to me and I believe them. Someone reading this I know is ready to type : Why would your mom say that to you and you not believe her. I know I ask myself this as well.

Then there are people like my neighbor.. He was telling a story about older women playing softball, he is an EMT. He said to me.."Maranda, they make you look skinny." How do people think that is nice, polite or even a compliment. I told him bluntly.. F.U. Tom. I was so p.o. I said it 2x. I dont think he realized it was hurtful because he cont. his story. I have worked hard to get where I am. He and his wife know I had the surgery. So why say that to me.

ok Im done ranting.. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh breathe.

Rant accepted!! I am on the other side..almost. I have lost about 39 lbs. and have gone from a 22 jean to a 14. Outside of the family only 1 person has noticed. I can see that my face is smaller and many of the "rolls" are gone. My take on it is that people don't really look at others who are overweight. We seem to be invisible to them for some reason we are just overlooked and it has become a habit. Like the women with large breast, most other people can tell you Kate has large breast, but can't describe her face!!! If she grows another head her sister would have to tell all the other people. Now for Tom, his brain is somewhere in a planter. People like him think "friendship" gives them open reign.. "My best friend is fat, but he's a good guy anyway." Don't worry about the butts out there. I told only 1 outside of family before the surgery and only 3 others since. They got let in because they freaked when I said I was having surgery. They know I have a history of cancer. I am not ashamed of the surgery or the need for it, I just didn't want to be watched and I didn't want to hear, "I thought you would loose more than that. Do your thing, listen to your Mom (we are ALWAYS right), enjoy your progress and to _ _ L L with all others.

Oh, I'm glad you told him to F. off! What an ass!

I'm pre band also. I have one guy in my office that I just can't stand. He thinks saying things like that are perfectly acceptable. We were eating lunch one day and someone said something about the show the biggest loser. He got really indignant and said that all fat people were losers. He just ranted and ranted. I, being the only fat person at the table, didn't say anything, but of course everyone else was just staring at me as I continued to eat my lunch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
