Weight loss and Menstrual Cycle

Recommended Posts

I was wondering does your weight loss seem to stop during your menstrual cycle. This is only my third month and was wondering if this is a trend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i was banded on March 3 and started the next day. the next month, was at easter time, and i didn't have any restriction and overdid the junk, so i stalled.

this month... on day 3 of my cycle, i lost a pound.

before my band, i was gain up to 5 pounds the week before and a few days after i started i was lose it all.

i don't see the huge gain before now, and i hope this month shows that i can still lose even though it's here.

i do seem to have much more restriction the week before also. i had never had to really sip, or be overly careful with my bites, chewing and slowing down, and last week sure taught me that i have not mastered that! i never got completely stuck, but i had lots of ...WOAH...SLOW down moments!

Oh Boy!! Does it ever!! I can count on the 2 weeks in between as being great at losing, but the week before and 1/2 the week of are horrible!! The 2 weeks I am so careful. I count those other 2 as gone. I don't gain just maintain what I have lost the other 2, but lose nothing! I was banded Jan. 9th. I can't complain because I've lost 72 pounds now. I just know this is how it is gonna be. I will still try working on it. Any other suggestions from longtime banders????

For the past two - three months I have lost weight during my TOM because the restriction is tighter than ever. Normally, I too gained weight, but not anymore. I am having to adjust my eating though. I am not looking forward to eating out today for Mothers' Day.

I get really tight right before and during my TOM. I can actually feel it happening inside me. I make it a point to only weigh myself once a week and I skip the week I have my TOM. It keeps me in a good mood.;)

I am also a lot tighter the week before and during. I tend to gain a little Water weight but seem to loose it plus more after since can't eat much at all.

I am with some of the other people who have learned to not worry about my weight during my cycle and a couple of days after. I also have experienced my cycle date changing and I did not know that when your weight changes your cycle date will change.

I notice my PMS symptoms are way less than what they used to be. My boobs used to get really sore and I'd get really bad back pain. I notice I no longer get those things. Just cramps. My weight loss stalls as well during this time that's why I don't get frustrated. But I no longer gain weight.

this has been some reassuring info...my periods have never been regular...PCOS thing...just having an almost normal one for a change and for the last 2 days I have had trouble even drinking my cups of tea in the mornings. Fine by the evening though and can eat a nice little chicken/pasta & salad. I have gone back to a couple of Protein Shakes during the day to tide me over.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
