My port lump is very noticable. If you place your hand on my stomach you can feel it. You don't have to press, it's an obvious lump. It reminds me of being pregnant and haveing a foot or an elbow jabbing be. Is this normal? Will this go down? I had surgery just under a month ago. :tt2:

I have something similar. I was told that happens after you loose a large amount of weight. The port can be easily felt under the skin. Mine isn't a bump though. I need to put my hand there to feel it. How much weight have you lost so far? You shouldn't be able to feel it until you lost a good amount and you have only had the surgery since one month ago? : /

Since surgery I've only lost 5 pds. (15 total including pre op diet loss) It's been a large bump from day one, but I've been hopeing it would go down.. it hasn't. I started out at a BMI of 35 and am told that's less than average..maybe that's why?

i had the same thing. my BMI was 38 and i had this huge lump and could feel my port from day one.

I was banded march 3 and for the longest it was obvious where it was at. after reading your post, i realized the swelling and lump is gone, but i can definitely feel my port easily.

i'm thinking it's not going to take much longer before you can see mine under the skin. i plan to have mine put much lower after i get to goal.

I can feel my port when I touch the area and to be honest, I like it being there to remind me of all the weight I have lost and to keep me in check. I am lucky that it is not visible to the eye. I have seen people who have it sticking out after they have lost a ton of weight. Someone in one of my groups had it surgically moved because they were so conscious of it. She has really overdone the weight lose though(and she seems a bit crazy to me).;) Try not to worry about it now. It eventually will probably just become a part of who you are and remind you to stay on track with your band journey. Good Luck to everyone!

Not an hour ago I was lying on the bed looking at the little hill and thinking that it looked like I was giving birth to an alien! It is a small mound but it is there and noticable, doc says it is a low profile one. I have had a port before and it wasn't like this. It was between my shoulder and breast but I had to feel for it. Good to know there are others lke me.

I can feel my port also. To the naked eye it is unnoticeable. I am glad I can feel it. I have heard of some patients whose port "jumped" or moved around, making it hard for Dr.'s to detect.

Moonbeam,

My surgery was 1 year ago & I could feel the port from day 1. At first the doctor said it was the swelling but it never went down. I was just like you thinking it feels just like when I was pregnant & could feel my baby. The doctor told me that eventually I would probably need to have my port switched to a low profile one that doesn't protrude so much. Right now it is so easy to hit for fills that they don't want to change it until I'm close to goal. You can see my lump with the naked eye, you don't have to feel for it. Just wanted to know, you're not alone in this area. Good luck with your weight loss!

Thanks everyone for letting me know your experiences, it's good to know I'm not alone, and that there is a solution like the port being movable. I didn't know that was possible. Guess I'll worry about that down the road when I've lost the weight I want to lose.

I'm in the same boat, you can see my port, its like a big lump just sitting there but it really doesn't bother me, actually I kinda like it, its a daily reminder why I went for surgery and to never go back to where I was. Lost 36lbs so far!

And I showed my Nurse, doctor and they said its fine, nothing to worry about hehe

i had my surgery 8 days ago. My port lump looks like half a baseball directly under my left rib cage. It's pretty horrible right now, doc says it will go down some. Seems like it is in the worst possible place. If it was closer to my middle, and not so close to the side, it wouldn't stick out as much. Starting BMI was 38. So glad the first week is over!!!

I had my surgery 11 months ago and the thing I hated afterwards was the lump - I was very upset about it - my scar was very deep and there was sort of a pooch like the skin wasn't pulled tight enough - In February I had a mini-arm lift and at the same time the PS revised the scar - the port is still obvious by sticking up where I can see it and feel it but the scar is straighter and not as jagged and looks much better so the port sticking out doesn't bother me as much - to be honest I loved the band as far as helping me not overeat but hated it because of the lump. I think eventually I will have the band and port removed because if I get to my goal weight it will stick out even more and it sort of creeps me out.

My port is very noticeable. The doctor had to place it almost in the center of my stomach because there was not enough fat where he usually puts it. You can see where the port with my shirt on, it protrudes out. This has been like this since it was placed. Now that I have lost over 60 pounds, it is more pronounced. I am glad I am not a lady, because it would really upset me. I don't like it showing, but I can deal with it.

So here's a question for you all. For those of you that do have this large port lump.. what do you tell people who don't know you have had WLS it is? ie: for me it might be a new boyfriend down the line... I was thinking of saying it's scar tissue or somthing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
