Once you have restriction, how long does before your next fill??

Recommended Posts

I am trying to gauge how long the fill lasts once you get restriction...are people going back for adjustments every month? 2 months? 4 months? etc. I have a Lapband (for 2 months now) and getting closer to finding my sweet spot, but curious to see how often people need to adjust to maintain the sweet spot- thanks

I'm not banded yet (June 1), but my daughter is. She clearly doesn't go every month. She's at about 14 months. After the initial fill, she's had maybe three fills. One was too tight and she had to go back in after a few days and have some taken out. But she's been at this level for about six months. For her, it's just as needed, but never has it been monthly. She's getting close to goal, so then she will loosen it somewhat but not all the way.

good luck

Trisha

In the beginning stages i went for a fill every 4 weeks. I opted for small frequent fills in hopes of avoiding any issues or complications. Going frequently for less aggressive fills worked for me, i have only pb'd a few times in 2 and 1/2 years and never have had heartburn or indigestion or have had to be unfilled.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
