Katrina Victims Need Plus Size Clothing in Texas!!!

Recommended Posts

Sorry to post this on the general discussions page, but I really wanted it to be read by as many people as possible!

I have been volunteering with the Katrina relief efforts in Texas - many of the evacuees in San Antonio, Dallas and Houston are in need of PLUS SIZE clothing. Although they have shut down clothing donations at Salvation Army and other centers - they are still in need of Plus size clothing.

I know that many of you out there have had great success in getting down to smaller sizes and might have some clothing that no longer fits - they could really use our help right now.

In Dallas - please drop the clothes off across from parking lot E at Reunion Arena - make sure to let them know that they are plus size- as many other clothes may be tured away. PLEASE - to make it easier on the voluteers and so the clothes can get to the people that need it as quickly as possible, seperate the clothing into men's, women's and sizes and bag and label them accordingly - taking 5 minutes to do this will save volunteers HOURS!!!

Thank you to everyone for reading this and doing what you can!!!

I will look into this, but I know that shelters will need it down the road - please stay posted and I will try and get more information on sending clothing later on!!

Hi, Soonergirl! I went through my closets this weekend, and sent bags and bags of plus size clothing to my daughter's school, and from there they are going to some shelters in the Denton area, or maybe even up to Reunion...we had to bag and label them according to size, just as you suggest. I just want to support your thread, and encourage everyone to find the need in their area...evacuees are being sent all over the U.S., even Massachusetts, Minnesota, Utah, etc. Hang on to your clothes, find your local shelter, and then you won't have to mail them.

Damn - I just went through my closet and donated all of my plus size clothing to other plus sized friends and then what was left to Goodwill just a few days before Katrina hit!

I'd boxed up a bunch of mine a year ago after initially losing weight. They'd been in my closet gathering dust... then Saturday, we hauled them down to my car along with some of my son's outgrown clothes and I delivered them to an evacuees shelter in downtown Atlanta. Sometimes, procrastination pays!

I'm going to clean my closet again.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was wondering. I'm still wearing my plus sized clothes, I haven't gone down a size yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
