Milk of Magnesia MISTAKE

Recommended Posts

Well I just wanted to forewarn people about a recent mistake I made! In the paper work I had from the doctor's office it said to take some milk of magnsesia for Constipation that commonly occurs after surgery. Well it did not say how much so I just took it based on the directions from the bottle which said to take 2-4 tbls. So I took some at night and some the next morning! Huge Mistake! It has been awful and painful! When I looked more closely in some of my other materials I noticed that it said to only take about 1tsp! Everything I eat is coming out of me in a very painful fashion. I am worried that the cramping will cause problems for my hernia that is fixed. I am so mad at myself as I feel if I would be doing much better right now if I had not done this!! Anyways I am hoping this goes away soon and my life become manageable again. I feel like I totally set myself back here!

I'm so sorry you are going through that! I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

Thank you for sharing this, though. It's just the kind of mistake I would have made, too!

OMG I am sooo sorry to hear about this. No one needs anymore pain than they are already dealing with.

Thank you so much for sharing and saving others to the possibly having to go through that as well.

Oh man, this stinks! I'm sorry that happened to you. :glare:

I went with the Gas-x, and I wonder if we were supposed to take a different dosage of that too? I was doing 2 strips, recommended was 2-4. Interesting.

Well, this is a good warning for everyone else though I am sorry it happened to you!

thank you skinnybyrd for the update on the M.O.M because my docs did suggest taking it and I would have totally did what the directions on the bottle said. Thank you for looking out for you fellow banditos, although I am very sorry that you had to find out this way.

Glad you are back to normal..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
