Breaking the bank??

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I would not have liked to have to wait to get insurance approval. Once I decided I wanted the band out, I started calling Dr. Aceves. There is nobody else I would want to do my band.

I was 20-30 lbs over weight due to having to have hardly any fill in my band. I was having band complications that I could see just getting worse, not better. I didn't want to fool around getting fills and unfills constantly, when I knew how and why the sleeve works.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Aceves and would highly recommend him, the hospital and the entire staff.

I've been hungry all my life. That's why I'm fat. No it's not head hunger, no it's not poor food choices, no I'm not an emotional eater.. I'm effing hungry, can't you just hear me out???

LOL love it! I feel the same way!! I have the band also and I am always hungry now. Granted, I don't think I have any Fluid in my band (I am pretty sure I have a slow leak) but I am tired of being hungry!!

When I brought this up to my Doc he pretty much laughed in my face. I think that he thinks I'm not doing the right things. Granted I don't exercise as much as I should, but I do damn good, and am a different person than I was a year ago. I wish they could follow me around for a week to see what I go through:(

Seriously, have you looked in to insulin resistance? I was doing all the right things as well but still not losing. I found out I am insulin resistance (officially dx-ed last week) and I am now on metformin. I hope it will help but i am still getting the VSG. But for months I exercised, ate right according to the southbeach diet plan, and still did not lose a pound. Then I thought "Let me go back on liquids" and I tried that for 4 weeks. Guess what? I lost a pound and gained it back DRINKING 800 Effing calories a day!! I knew something was up. I also have hypothyroidism and my levels were out of whack. Honestly I don't think the medical field understands that there are SOME OF US OUT THERE that are not kidding ourselves and we should be taken seriously!!

So yah, sorry to let loose, I kind of needed to get that out. lol

I guess I'm confused about pre op and post op stuff if Mexico is chosen for surgery too. Will I need to do post op here in the US with my current doc? Because EEEEK, I don't think that will work out well.. And how does the pre op stuff work? Is it all done once you get there??

Thanks again for your time and responses!

Kerri

You can read my web site http://www.tracyslapband.com for info about surgery in Mexico. I am in the process of creating a sleeve page with an FAQ but in the mean time, I found someone who already has some great info at www.sleeveguide.com

Good luck on your journey and just know you are not alone in your frustrations!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
