PB and calorie tracking

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am trying to figure out how to handle tracking calories when I PB. Last night I had some dark meat chicken that came right back up (it even tasted the same coming up as it did going down) and I don't know if I'm supposed to count that as calories eaten or not. For now I did count the calories but I want it to be right b/c I'm trying to analyze my weight loss pattern with the food intake. What do you guys do?

I scoop it up and weigh it, then subtract that amount. JUST KIDDING!!!

I just don't count it, and just so you know, I haven't been able to eat dark meat chicken from before I had fills. You wouldn't think it would make that much difference, but it does for me. This band is a fickle little shit that only allows me to eat certain things.

I'm getting down to a certain staple set of "safe foods", and I'm ok with that for now.

That's so funny. I can ONLY eat dark meat chicken. Breast are dry and definitely out of the question for me now. When I chew it, it wads up in a ball and I can tell before I even swallow it if I'm going to have a problem.

The chicken tasting the same coming up as going down is because there is no stomach acid in your pouch. It doesn't hit that until it passes the stoma or pinched portion of your stomach and drops through. Pouch contents is undigested food. I rarely toss up my pouch contents, but boy I can SLIME with the best of them!!! LOL

I also can only eat dark chicken, when I try white meat I can feel it hanging out above my stomach not moving, and then it makes an appearance. It just is too dry I think. What's wierd is that there isn't always consistency - I tried dark chicken multiple times since PBing it last week and it stayed down just fine. Wierd.

Is sliming throwing up? Do you only count actual throw up with acid as throwing up? Can getting ride of the food in your pouch cause slipage?

Lal,

Here's my personal take on this issue. My response would be that, no, sliming is not "throwing up". When I slime, I can literally lean over the toilet at the waist, open my mouth and the slime just slides out in a big, mucky ball. There is no actual stomach contractions associated with it. In my opinion, "throwing up" is when the stomach contracts and forces the food up and out. That would include the stomach acid and partially digested food. Because of the potentially violent nature of the stomach contractions when vomiting, if you did it often enough and for any length of time, yes, it could cause the band to slip. Most surgeons want to know right away if you get a stomach virus and are vomiting a lot. They can give you medication to stop this. For me, a "PB" is one step further than sliming. It's the contents of the pouch coming up along with the slime. Still no stomach acid involved. It's more like a mild gag or coughing. Or a "wet belch". I know that sounds disgusting, but I'm not sure how else to describe it. Vomiting and throwing up is just nasty.... sour, out the nose, putrid and just plain horrible. It can also be somewhat painful. The force of the food coming from the lower stomach through the tiny opening of the stoma and through the little pouch can be very uncomfortable. Does that clarify it for you, or is it clear as mud?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
