Help i swallowed a hard piece of candy

Recommended Posts

Hi, i swallowed a piece of hard candy i was sucking on. It was still pretty good circle size. It feels kind of stuck. I have no fill at the moment in my badn (thank god) But should i be worrying?? Will it eventually go thru? Or should i be contacting someone??

As long as your not in pain from being stuck I think you should be fine. It should melt and move through the stoma when its small enough. Maybe swallow a little bit of Water to help it dissolve? If you're really worried its best to contact your doctors office just to get their opinion. The thing I worry about swallowing is gum .

Drink Hot Tea, and it will help it melt. I have done this before, it should go thru

honestly if you don't have a fill, odds are it's gone and you're just nervous about it. CAREFUL with drinking liquids though; if something IS stuck and you drink, you can cause yourself some trouble (because if the hole is blocked, the liquid isn't going through either)

I'd try the warm/hot tea.

I swore off Gum the day I got my band. I think you'll be ok with the candy though. Good luck.

I hope her candy has gone through by now, all was good advise!

On a similar subject, the no drinking Water when stuck. I know this is how it is supposed to be. But for me, when I am stuck bad, really uncomfortable or in pain, a small amount of water is the only way I can get it up. The water will not go down, but if I give my diaphragm just a little push as the water is coming back up, everything stuck comes right behind it. Gross subject, I know, But this is what works for me and thankfully I don't have to use it often, but I did last night hence my response to the water issue!

JMS that Water trick is a good one; I'll try to remember it. Because I have a terrible time when something is stuck. I am NOT a vomiter; I could never be bulemic because I say my digestive tract is a one way ride. I am 54 and preband vomited 5 times in my WHOLE life. (Yes I remember each one! LOL) So having something stuck and getting it to come UP is a nightmare for me.

IF (ha, when!) I am foolish enough to get stuck again I'll remember that Water trick.

I am exactly the same, never a vomiter and I remember my few as well!!!!!! I hope it works for you too because it provides such relief and nothing else I've tried that has been suggested works for me!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
