Think last fill too much?

Recommended Posts

I just had a fill yesterday (8cc in 10cc band). I am post-op 6 months and have had some restriction but nothing extreme until my last fill in April. The fill yesterday has brought a good deal of restriction. Today I was able to eat: a packet of GoLean oatmeal with a few berries, a 3oz can of tuna with lf mayo and about 2.5oz of meat (cut up way small) and a tb or two of mashed potatoes and mushy eggplant. I was uncomfortable after dinner but no real pb. I can hear gurgling after I eat or drink. Do you think I am too restricted? Do you think I should wait it out? Is this what restriction means and it just took me this long?

if you can eat that much with no PB then i think you should wait it out. i gurgle the first couple days after a fill and then it subsides.

wow! i have had three fills with the most recent being yesterday also. i have always been advised to have liquids for two days after and then 4-5 days of soft foods. today i feel like the fill was pretty tight but i know that after 3 days it will feel perfect and that i will once again be eating very small portions. seems to me like all doctors have their own rules for fills and diets. i am restricted on carbs with only a certain amount i am able to have in one day. i have lost 60 pounds, so it's okay with me.

I was also a little surprised that you're already eating solid food the next day after a fill. But, by what you describe, it doesn't sound like you're too tight. My doctor gives me this rule of thumb to go by, and I think its a good one:

  • If you are unable to eat 3 ounces of solid (meat, fish, chicken) Protein then your band is too tight.
  • If you do eat 3 ounces of solid protein and you are still hungry, or get hungry again right away, your band is probably too loose.

My doc says liquids for 24 hrs then go slowly with whatever I can tolerate. I am responding becaus I too am 6 months out and just got my last fill bringing me to 8.5cc's and I gurgle too. I too thought maybe to tight but I ma managing and have not lost energy so I think I am good. Wish me luck though because I am flying next week and have heard mixed things about how the band will re-act. Take Care:glare:

Hi MIJ, It's getting really close to vacation time for you!! Hope you have a great time! How much have you been able to eat after this last fill? You are quite full at 8.5!

Thank you! Yes I am quite full but doing well with it. For Breakfast (late Morning) I may have a bananna. For lunch it is usually a piece or two of lean lunchmeat and cheese and some fruit, dinner is where I get majority of Protein, if I measured my dinner it would be about a cup to 1 1/4 cups and 80% of that would be Protein and the rest veggies. I may taste a carb or two here and there but I dont have the room for them. I find myself being very aware of what foods get the limited space:tongue_smilie:

8cc in a 10cc band at six months doesn't allow for very much growing room....well, but I guess that you will only need small fills down the road.

Hmmmmm, you are still able to eat more than I usually can and I think I only have about 5cc. I am only losing about 1 1/2 pounds a week now though. But, I can't exercise much. I am a bit scared to get another fill!! Have a great trip! Sounds like you'll do just fine eating.

I have 4 cc's in a 10 cc band and can eat about 1.5 cups of food 3x daily,, plus small Snacks like yogurt 2 x. I am on my 2nd fill and sometimes it is very tight,, weird thing with me is its either around 1 pm or at dinner time instead of in the morning. I don't plan on having a fill any time soon as long as I keep losing.

I had my 2nd fill about 2 wks ago and am still experiencing some gurgling, but realized I needed to adjust my portions again. I had about 4 days of PBing once a day, but think I have it under control.. If it starts now I just stop eating and put the food away till it feels better, that is a challenge in itself!!

I would say if it stays uncomfortable for another week you might want to talk with the nurse,, I'm going to stick it out for another week too and see if it changes.

How long does it take you to eat?? I have learned with dinner(which is probaly why I am able to get a cup down) but I savor it and it usually takes me about 45 min to eat it. I would probably eat less if I just quit at 30 minutes but I am stil loosing and happy so thats what matters to me:tt2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
