So pre banders have any of you prepaired your eating habits for this huge transition that is going to take place for you soon?

Meaning have any of you before the surgery started eating the way you will be eating after the fact?

I really would like some input on this please. I love food and this is something I have thought about doing it just to get my mind and body ready for the huge change in eating habits.

Get back to me when you all can and please be honest it will be a big help.

Miichele

I haven't tried to do any liquid diet or anything like that. I have to weight till June 6th to see the surgeon, so for the next month I can't lose any weight. I am 103 lbs over weight and can't go below 100 lbs. Insurance doesn't go by BMI. Anyway, what I have done though is like taken really tiny bites and chewed the crap out of them. It is actually hard because I really wanna swallow them before they are ready to be swallowed. I have also been trying not to drink so much when I eat. I know that will be the biggest problem I will have post-op.

This is a great idea, IMO. I When I finally made up my mind to do this back on Nov. 17th I started to make changes. I kwen I had to learn how to do this. First I gave up sweet tea and soda, replaced with Crystal Lite type drink. I lost 4lbs. the first week, I had to work hard to get in more fluids. Next I changed some food choices, then worked on portions and using a smaller plate. I then added a slim fast meal daily. By Feb. 29 I was down from a size 20/22 jean to an 18. By the time I started my liver shrink diet at the end of the month I had learned to eat yogurt and cottage cheese (not often)and had tried out some Protein drinks; and I had given up the pop corn I had been chowing down on nightly. Surgery day I had lost 19lbs., the most ever without being on a diet and working my body really hard. With the surgery I picked up about 6lbs. and it took some work to get it off. I think it's the gas they pump in but it didn't just go away; adding food back in I think the body holds onto it more because it doesn't know what you just did to it. Two weeks of a high protein diet (for me) then a week of full liquids (slim fast & protein shakes) week of soft food. I did a little treadmill time, but nothing regular. I am now almost 2 months post-op and have lost a total of 39lbs. and can wear a size 14 jeans. I still can't get myself to the gym but I am working on it. I have not been hungry and now that I can have "regurlar" food, the big deal is to chew well and eat slowly. Had a couple of bad episods with that, still learning. The lesson is a hard one but I tend to just do things to quickly.

Good luck to you, yes it is worth it all.

The only thing I've really tried to do is chewing heaps, it's kinda gross when you mush the food thru and have to chew it like a million times but I just think that I don't want to get something stuck or end up pb'ing so I have to get used to chewing heaps, I've trialed drinking 15-30 minutes before eating which I can do as I just drink before that time and then wait but I find waiting 30 minutes after eating is really hard. I think I might have to stick something on the fridge for after I'm banded saying "Don't forget - Don't drink until 30 minutes after" otherwise I'm going to be in pain lol.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
