am trying to qualify for LB. prior rejection led to 30 lb gain, now at 200 lbs, 5"1 (female) BMI close to 36. co-morbidities are on the mild side, including acid reflux, shortness of breath on exertion (but no cardio disease yet), foot, knee and leg pain, lower and upper back chronic pain, depression, family history of insulin dependent diabetes and heart attack (but I dont have metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes yet).

can any of you in this community guide me on what I could do to optimize my chance of approval? I have excellent insurance which seems to cover most things (IVF, some cosmetic), but this one is uncertain. am going for second consult with new doc on Monday. should I really fill my pockets with rocks? or any other creative ideas to insure success? pls respond. without being dramatic, I have tried everything else and have failed. am not living my life fully due to this disease (no dating, isolating etc) thanks

"co-morbidities are on the mild side, including acid reflux, shortness of breath on exertion (but no cardio disease yet), foot, knee and leg pain, lower and upper back chronic pain, depression, family history of insulin dependent diabetes and heart attack (but I dont have metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes yet)" -- NONE of those are considered co-morbidities. I calculate your BMI at 36.7 which is considered a candidate but that doesn't mean your insurance company would consider you a candidate. I suggest calling them to find out (1) if they cover weight loss surgery, (2) what are the requirements to be qualified for the surgery, and (3) what surgeons are covered on your plan. You don't know until you ask.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
