My Introduction...Hi Everyone

Recommended Posts

Hello and lots of hugs, I am new to this forum. I need to lose at least 30 kilos before my surgeon is willing to risk operating on a bad spinal condition I have. He says at my weight it is too delicate an operation to do at my weight. At present I am on 'Oxycontin' {Morphine Meds} twice daily for severe pain and also Panadeine Forte. I am borderline diabetic, and am carrying a lot of Fluid in my ankles and legs and have high blood pressure.

I have about 14 tablets to take some of which are quite large. I have been reading a lot about Lapbanding and would like to find out all I can about it. I am worried that my med's will get stuck and not go down, I also wonder if I had the op to help me lose weight quicker before my back surgery, would the Lapbanding Operation be too painful to go through with all the pain I am already suffereing from due to my spine.

Thank you for reading my post, I would appreciate any help members can give me.

Bye For Now...xx

I don't know what kind of condition you have, I had back surgery several years ago for two herniated discs and I would say that the pain on the lapband is nothing compared to that. But only your doctor can tell you - they may not be able to do the lapband surgery due to the other issues you have, I would make an appointment with my primary care doctor and go from there. Good luck and the best to you!

I can remember the morning I decided to have my back surgery - I kept putting it off and then woke up with a sinus infection and literally couldn't move to get out of bed to get a tissue, I just laid there and cried with my nose running everywhere! You need to get your life back, talk to your doctors and find a solution, there has to be a way, and if you have to get off of the morphine so that you can have the surgery I think the pain will be worth it - I know it's easier to say than do but you don't want to live on pain meds, you want to live!

Hi Aussie, I have bad sciatica as well and it affects my legs too. My chiropractor taught me how to keep the pain way down with pulling the nerves. It is incredible how well it works. Try this: Sit up straight, cross your bad leg over the other, pull your knee up (bad leg), & while pulling it up, force it in the direction of the other leg with your hands, you will feel it if you are doing it correctly in your lower back at your sciatic nerve. Hold for about 10 seconds, stop for about 15 seconds and do again, about 3 to 5 times. You can do the other side also to balance it out if you like. Do this several times a day and as often as you need (every day if needed). It pulls your sciatic nerve and in a day or 2 the pain will be gone. If you keep this up, you can stop the pain as soon as it starts and you'll be able to walk without pain. Good luck with it! GB

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
