May 2009 BANDSTERS

Recommended Posts

Think i am following the usual path of no restriction following banding. I get my first fill on 11th June so not to far away. Just got to keep my liquid diet going i think as i have full appetite back and i feel i can eat anything at present without issue. Anyone else find that?

Yeah...I was banded on the 7th, and I'm pretty sure I could eat whatever I wanted right now. But, I've been good...I'm taking small bites, chewing well, and taking time between each bite. My portions are smaller than I had in the past, and I feel full sooner because of this, but I also find that I'm feeling hungry earlier, too. After surgery I was fine for 4-6 hours between meals. Now, I'm usually hungry after 2 hours. I don't act on it, but that's not much fun either. Just waiting for my first fill on June 4th!

Hi Guys,

I was banded 5/11/09 @ NYU . Stayed in overnight as the Dr. also removed my gallbladder. I did lose 50 lbs pre-op. Lost 10 lbs post -op ( the first week after surgery) and haven't lost a pound since.

Can eat almost anything but I'm really watching calories and quantity. Trying to eat 1200 calories per day and 90 grams of Protein.

Had my first fill last week on 6/11/09. 4cc's were put in but since the lap band was totally empty, most of the 4cc's went to the tube and just inflate the band. I still can eat anything and do not fill restricted at all. Can't wait for my next fill. I have a call into the Dr's office to see if I can step up the appointment. What's the point in waiting ?? if you have no restriction. We'll see. It is fustrating.

I had my first fill last week. It has helped but I'm still a little hungry by the end of the day. I'm now on my life time diet. Told I can eat anything I want as long as it agrees with me and I stay with in the plan. Plan being 2 oz Protein, 1 oz starch, 1 oz fruit or veg. What that means is no Snacks, 3 meals a day with 4 oz each meal.

When I talked to the dietitian, she said my calorie intake should be around 700 to 800 calories a day. She also claimed if I ate in the 1500 calorie range again, I would probably gain weight. It seems there is no real standard with this as I read there are multiple variations. Anyhow that is where I'm at and I have once again began losing weight after about a 3 week stand still. I go again in 2 weeks for another fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
