I honestly felt like i was dying!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok...before i had surgery i had this same pain maybe once...but since having it done, ive had it almost 3 times..the last 2 times were only a couple days apart

The other night, me and my cousin had went out to eat, i didnt over eat or anything like that. Well we finished, went looking around at different stores and then my stomach started feeling really weird and knotting up. We went back to my car, and i had to put my seat back because the pain kept getting worse. I was laying down and it felt just like my upper stomach was in a knot and someone was pulling it on both ends as hard as they could. I felt like i was dying. I made her drive home but after about 20-30 min. it went away and i was fine.

Last night, around 9:45 i started feeling weird again. i went to the bathroom and by the time i was out, i was doubled over in pain again. I went and laid down and it was that same pain again. It was horrible. No position would work, i jus had to lay there praying it would stop. And again, after about 20-30 min. it stopped.

I was talking to the ladies at work today and they mentioned it might gas. That is some crazy gas if thats the case. I go the doctor tomorrow and im going to ask him. Id rather go through surgery 10 times than have that pain again.

Anyone had the same problem????

Sounds like gas pains or your gall bladder.

It sounds like gall bladder to me too. Now that just might be my bias as I just had a major attack two Saturdays ago, bad enough I say "uncle" and it's coming out this Friday.

From what I understand, the gall bladder stores bile and empties the bile under certain circumstances. Apparently when women in their 20s go on low fat diets, they make themselves susceptible to the gall bladder just STORING the bile and not emptying regularly. The estrogen in our bodies makes the conditions right for stones to form because the bile is staying stored (I think the gb likes to empty after a fatty meal... many people have attacks after fried food... my first attack was after I had taco night and chose not to drain and rinse the ground beef like I usually did; my most recent attack was after I decided to finish up my son's chick-fil-a strips and fries.)

Additionally, stress may be a factor in the "attack" equation. It is for me!

I think they teach doctors that if the patient is female, fair, fat, fertile, she is a prime candidate for gb issues!

How you find out? Go in the midst of an attack to the ER or make an appt with your GP and tell him your symptoms and ask for a referral for an u/s, OR ask your bariatric surgeon to refer you out for a scan.

My bariatric doc removes gall bladders either before or after lap band surgery. I am getting mine out before!

No you are not crazy... my first attack felt like bad gas, and when I vomited at that first attack, I then thought it was food poisoning.

I have heard gallstones and kidney stones are the worst pains to have, worse than childbirth (I agree!)

That's the first I have heard about the surgeon taking out the gall bladder as a rule of thumb... mine didn't although they did fix a hiatus hernia. Is is normal to have the gall bladder removed? Do lots of people have this done?

First thing I could think of is that it is your gall bladder.

I read one of your replies, you need to see a Dr. who can do an ultra sound and see if there are gall stones. I had my gallbladder out and when I was having attacks, I too thought I was going to die.

Please get it checked out, as a planned removal of a gall bladder is far easier than emergency surgery.

Keep us posted.

Lots of people have their gall bladder removed. Every one I talk to tells me "my mom had hers out" or "I had mine out." I think if you have open gastric bypass they will take your gall bladder at the same time. I have heard some doctors take out the gall bladder at the same time as other weight loss surgeries. My doc said it would risk infection to do both at the same time, but I think that is due to them both being laproscopic and he says I will end up with 9 places to heal (holes) but only 8 visible because one is in the navel.

I think that the faster the weight loss, the more risk to forming stones. I am not sure if ALL bariatric docs recommend gall bladder removal. Hey, it's probably another 10k, so I bet they do, LOL!

I agree with the above because emergency surgery would most likely be open surgery... not as easy to heal from! Also, if your attack pain is bad enough, you will vomit and that could jack up your lapband (I guess that is "slippage".)

I had the same pains while I was pregnant with my son and went to the hospital swearing I was in labor!! HA! the ultrasound tech said "your not in labor you have gall stones"...I just had my gall bladder out at the same time as my lapband last thursday April 30th. The dr had no problem with taking it out at the same time and I only had 1 extra incision.

Healing has been a little more painful because of the 2 procedures but I glad I only had to have one surgery.

Good Luck!

One way to tell if it's gallbladder, is if it's on the left side instead of the right. I had mine out a few months ago after dealing with it for over a year. I had a 0% ejection fraction, so my doc had said it wasn't an urgent removal and I put it off a while. I finally had one attack in the middle of the night that was excruciating, and I called and set up surgery the next day.

The left side pain isn't always a give-away, but it might help narrow it down.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
