Misleading billboard advertising lap band

Recommended Posts

does anyone get what i'm trying to say????

i do get what your saying - but you can't attribute why you were / got fat to the rest of us......experiences / bodies are just different. ie your comment regarding thyroid.....my husband has a problem with his and he's done quite well with his band, so maybe generalizing is what some might take issue with.

i was not an emotional eater, i did not indulge in sweets / fast food. i like good food/wine & lg quantities.

this billboard did not bother me in the least - the poster after you was quite nasty to the OP and that was just not called for.

Uhm.. don't see anything offensive about it. Think it's rather clever really.

I was just noticing yesterday on the 6 hour road trip to my band doc how billboards these days try to cram way too much message on there, and then a lot of them didn't even make sense!!!

There was one that said--

"Big bang theory??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" -God

And it was advertising for a Fybromyalgia (sp) group.

---

Another one "A parent who hosts, is a parent who loses the most".

---

What do these things even mean?!

So yeah, a nice to the point-- do you eat too much, get the band! Does the job.

As for surgery on billboards, they're very big in Alabama.. haven't seen a lapband one, but there's a crap load of cardiac surgery billboards around here (which I found odd, who looks at a billboard for that info).

And Realize is all over my Tivo lately. At the bottom of every screen it says Wanna Lose Weight? Realize Band can help (something like that).

I don't get the fibromyalgia thing, but the other one I take to mean that if a parent hosts a party for teens that has alcohol, they risk losing a lot.

LMAO @ Sandiego! I do not offend easily myself, but that billboard SUCKS! It would be nice to know exactly how many people went to those doctors after they saw that billboard. I am sure they were pi$$ed when they found out you can't take bites like that after you get banded. So maybe you can hit them with false advertisement ;o)

The board confuses me personally. The guy doesn't look heavy and neither does it look like he is on a diet. He looks like he is eating to his heart's content and a "diet" never entered his mind...ever. If you want to remind me of the pain of a diet, I would think more of a tiny, tiny portion of food with a person staring at it and frowning, because they are starving and it isn't enough for them : / Where with a lap band, it would be. Yes, diets suck. But cramming food into your mouth is not dieting. Or are they actually trying to say that is how you will eat once you get a band? That's an outright lie >>;

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
