Band Filled to its Capacity

Recommended Posts

I've had the surgery over a year ago and i was banded with a 4cc band. Here I am a year later with excellent results but my band is almost filled to capacity ( i have .4cc's to play around with), but my question is what happens when the band is filled to capacity and I no longer feel restricted? What happens at that point?

good question. i too have a 4cc band with 3.8cc in now. my surgery was 1 year ago. havent needed a fill for 6 months and still have great restriction. my doc said that 4cc bands will hold over 4cc if needed. (but i didnt ask how much more cuz i really dont need it).

how much do you have in yours?

both my dietician and doctor told me going in that with a 4cc band you should get to your sweet spot earlier than with a 10cc band (which makes sense and was true in my case).

Its not been an issue with me at all yet.

A question for both of you: Did your doctor say why he chose the 4cc band instead of the AP Standard 10cc band which is newer? What was your fill schedule like? I have the 4cc band (Sept. 08) and I had a lot of problems when filled to 3cc's and had to have 1cc removed.

I'm going to ask a question that might seem stupid, but here it goes anyway. I've been reading posts about people having lapband that hold 4cc and almost being full. I was banded last November and so far I have had 81/2 cc's of saline filled. What exactly is the capacity of the lapband and how will I know if it is full and can't be filled anymore?

There are several types of Lapband bands. The #10CM holds 4cc. The AP Standard holds 10cc. It appears you have one that holds 10cc. I have the 4cc one.

i'm filled 3.6cc's right now and i know i have the 4cc band. My docotor thought the 4cc band was best for me, although he had trouble placing it, but honestly at this point i really wish i had the 10cc band because i'm coming close to the end and fear the weight coming back.

Not sure why he chose the 4cc band other than he said he makes that decision when he gets you open and can see your anatomy inside. He uses different ones for different people based on anatomy and starting weight, etc. I'm happy with my 4cc band. I got to my sweet spot early on, and have had a consistent loss. I am now weighing on the lower side of what is normal for my height, but would like to lose 5-10 more if I can.

My doc said that his standard is a 14 cc band - I hadn't heard of that - do others have this one?

Good morning. I have the 14cc band and right not I have 9 cc in the band and have good restriction. I am happy my dr went with the bigger band, but it did take a long time to feel restriction. I am just feeling now after being banded in February 09.

From what I have read, they all hold more cc's than the size they are so you probably have nothing to worry about!

The allergen lapband now comes in 2 sizes, 10 or 14, small or large. My Dr. said he determines what size to use by the size of the person usually.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
