New-B...and a may bandster!

Recommended Posts

Hello all...Im new to the forum, (as you can probably tell from my lack of photos etc). Im a 27yo wife and mom of 1 beautiful 3 yr old daughter, from Dallas, TX. I went with my cousin to a seminar in March...and had been thinking about Lap-band for a while. My insurance doesnt cover it....so I never really thought any more about it. Last year I was told I am pre-diabetic. (Both my parents have TypeII)...and going through insulin resistance. ACK! Last Wednesday I finally just said..."hrmm....I will go ahead and do the initial consultation..." come to find out I have pretty high blood pressure...and other "small" issues that I had are now getting worse. So on Thursday I called and got approved for financing and by Friday I scheduled my surgery date.

Surgery is scheduled for May 20th....Pre-op the 19th. I start my 2 week diet in 2 days. I am so nervous. I keep reading everything I can about complications...so that I can be a little more educated and perhaps learn from other peoples' experiences. I am starting to feel the anxiety and nervousness of the surgery take its toll. The dr I am using is a little more expensive than some of the others around...but my cousin is good friends with someone who has used him...and has nothing but GREAT things to say. So I think the extra money is worth it.

I look forward to all that we will go through together....and look forward to the support this site can give us!

Hi, Leeann! Welcome to the mayo Banditos! I'm also insulin resistant and have been taking glucophage (diabetes med) for 8 1/2 years even though I'm not diabetic. It's time for me to stop that game. Good for you for taking charge of it early!!!

I agree, it's worth it to pay more if you know you're getting higher quality!

Good luck!

Hi Leann!! Welcome - I'm new here too - I've been reading things for about 6 months, but I'm a new poster. My date is May 13th - I'm on day 6 of my 14 day liquid pre-op diet and it's going so well I'm amazed!! Of course, I steer clear of any food (seeing or smelling it anyway.) I was only actually hungry on the first day - since then - smooth sailing. I'm amazed.

Welcome and nice to meet you!!

Hello there I saw your post and thought you might be good to journey with ;-) I am 28 and have two kiddos! Also went to a seminar with my mom back in March at True Results in Dallas. Wasn't expecting to do the surgery but was there with my mom for support. Two weeks later I was in the office having a consultation!! I am scheduled for May 15! So excited!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
