eh2965 0 Posted September 8, 2005 Hello Im new to this too ! I am still post op. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday 9/15/05. I am excited , but nervous at the same time. I just had my consultation on Aug 30th and my surgery scheduled that same day! Its happening so fast it seems. Even though I have been looking into this procedure for a long time ! I have questions though and they may sound stupid , but Im gonna take a chance here. Does anyone drink alcohol? We are going on a cruise in October and the people we are going with we usually drink socially together. It will be ok if I cannot drink , but I know I will feel left out. Has anyone drank after they have been banded? It would only be a month post op. As I write this I just talked myself out of it ! Im too scared to drink alcohol so soon after. If any of you have heard or know can you let me know?
vinesqueen 2 Posted September 8, 2005 Hi Erin and Janie, welcome to LBT and to the Banded Gentry! Yes Erin, you will be able to drink again, but you will probably find that bubbly things like beer will loose their former appeal because many people find fizzy painful. Many people have reported that they are now "cheap dates" because it only takes a little to do what a lot used to do. I'd recommend drinking at home before drinking in public because you probably don't want to drink too much.

eh2965 0 Posted September 8, 2005 thank you vinesqueen ! you are the first one to answer me and I do feel better now ! my sister had the gastric bypass two years ago , but she wasn't a drinker so she didn't know ! Im not really much of one either, but the cruise is the first big social event after surgery so I guess Im a little nervous of fitting in and not being noticed as being restricted ! (im afraid to hear the naysaysers say uhhuh look she can't even enjoy herself now , can't eat, can't drink ...ect...)
