Insurance can make me sick sometimes

Recommended Posts

I was banaded Dec. 1, 2008 my fills were always covered to where i just paid my office visit co-pay, I had been going everymonth with no problems this month I go in for a fill and am told my co-pay is now 125.00. Insurance has changed coverage. I'm so ticked off because rightnow I just can't afford it but I know I need my fills because my weight loss has been slow as it is(i've only lost 30 lbs since Dec.1). How could they. I don't know what to do now because i was already getting discouraged because everyone else I know that has had the band lost quicker but now this... It's frustrating. What would you do??????

First, I would talk to the hr dept. at your work and find out what is going on with your insurance. Second, if if your insurance coverage has actually changed and you will have to pay the $125 per fill, I would talk to the doctor's office about a payment plan. If you can afford say $50 per month, would they be agreeable to you paying that? I get fills about every 6 weeks right now, so you'd be able to make 2 payments between each fill so you wouldn't get too far behind. And, of course, make sure your doctor is aware of this situation so that he/she can make sure your fills are adequate. I know some doctors are more conservative with fills than others, so make sure your doctor understands that you are paying a lot of money for each fill. Good luck, I wish you the best. Linda

I had a similar experience with my ins co. They told me they no longer cover fills, in fact, they said they had an audit and they should never have even covered the surgery itself!! That unnerved me to say the least....

My Doctor has been working with me on a payment plan to pay for my fills, thankfully. I would think most Docs would work with a patient given the economic times we are in. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
