Piotr Gorecki @ ny methodist hospital. weight is 203.5 height 4'11, co-morbidities are: sleep apnea, High cholesterol, and Severe hip arthritis (that doesn't qualify for the replacement it needs b/c of my age and weight) I'm Nervous. to be completely honest terrified. I'm just looking for other people who are on the same path as me, and that understand exactly what it is I am going through (b/c I've always been the fat kid in the corner) I just wanted to say hello, and so far reading everyones posts has helped me mellow out just a bit. I'm trying to use this to find other people in the NYC area that have been banded by my surgeon as well. Talk to me!!!!

Hi, Sarah! I'm also being banded on the 7th! Glad to have you here as a mayo Bandito -- it's a great group of people who can totally relate! I've had weight problems since age 8, so I know -- boy do I know -- how you felt about being the fat kid in school. That was awful. :)

There are lots of threads going on the Mayo Banditos forum. Here's a link to all of them: May 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

They changed my date to May 21st, on monday morning, I'm still really aggrivated about that, because I was mentally and physically prepared for it, spent all day monday hysterical and had to see my pcp at 6 am yesterday and got the only attitude from him, and they changed my date BECAUSE OF HIM. he didn't properly write the letter to my insurance. so it has to be re-done. BUT it also buys me time b/c I had a sleep study done last week to confirm my sleep apnea so the full report will be in by the time I'm on the table.

Spideymom, I wish you the best of luck tomorrow, and look forward to hearing more positive things from you, and Richie & John- THANK YOU.

NYU doesn't take my insurance. I wanted to see dr. ren, but Dr. Gorecki at methodist is the only one who I can see, he's a nice guy and I trust him... So Thank you everyone!!!!

Hi Sarah. I hope the procedure went great.

I am also looking to use PIOTR GORECKI MD, but haven't heard much about him. Like you, my insurance didn't fully cover an NYU surgeon. So, I am hoping Gorecki is just as great.

What do you think so far?

Jim

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
