Just Banded with the Blues

Recommended Posts

I know I should be happy since I was just officially banded 04-30-09, but I can not help but to have the blues. For starters the gas they use to inflate your abdomen was pure torture I felt like no matter how much I " walked, walked , walked" the gas would not budge.

Another thing I can not seem to get back into my pre op diet. Everything makes me nauseous. I pretty much have been on a Water and diet grape juice diet. I know that's bad, but I can not seem to take anything else down.

Help! I'm banded with the blues:frown:

I was on Clear Liquids for nearly two weeks after surgery and then moved to full liquids. Try some Beef or chicken boulion I also ate a couple SF popciclesthose fisrt few weeks. I think the blues will be common for us in coming weeks as we adjust to the new tool we have to assist us.

You know, I had a few days of the blues after surgery too. I got sick from the anasthesia and it hit me that I had really done something dramatic to myself. I also had horrid gas pains in my shoulder. BUT - just keep focusing on the long term goal. The next few days will go by quick and you'll start to feel better and better.

Oh darling, I feel your pain. I felt so down in the dumps after my surgery. So many emotions going on, like "what have I done to myself?" "why did I have to resort to this" "what if I fail?" "I am so scared!!" and you don't have your old faithful friend food there to help you. Please believe me that this is temporary. You are probably feeling nauseous because of the anesthetic (some do, some don't) and because you now have a band around your tummy - which it's not used to! You will start to feel better, but it will take a few weeks till you feel "normal" again, but you will get there. I got really depressed when I was at home for two weeks after surgery, felt like I was all alone and scared about what lay ahead and no one understood, and that I looked in the mirror and I was still a fat blob and it was all for nothing! Hang in there though - I am now nearly 5 weeks post op, and I feel great. I had my first fill today - and the hunger that had returned has gone. You will get there, to the place where you feel like your old self AND then some, you will feel like the hotter thinner version of yourself!! I made a scrapbook (even though I am not much of a scrapbooker) of each month and I am doing update photos each month and then putting them in the scrapbook, filling the pages around them with hot pictures of models and cool clothes and motivational words cut out from magazines. It may sound naff, but its fun and makes me feel optimistic. Think of the future, and make sure you join us on here for pick me ups whenever you need it - we have all been there!xx

Oh thanks so much you all. It is good to know that I am not the only one experiencing this. I hope I start to feel better. Scrap-booking does sound pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing LingLing!

Hi

I was banded on 4/27 and the first two days post op were not happy ones. I had terrible gas pain (gas X strips helped a little) and was very anxious. Anesthesia and the way they do laproscopic surgery can do both of these things to your body. It took a few days, but they both went away.

Tomorrow makes one week and I can't believe the difference in the way I feel. Try and hang in there. I was told to each very small amounts (1-2 ozs) of pureed foods and alternate with liquids. It helped and the frequent small amounts of liquids keeps you hydrated.

Write again on Friday and tell us how you feel!

I was banded on 4/26. I too felt the blues. My physical recovery has been great. Port area is still very sore.

Allow yourself time to heal emotionally and physically. This is very common post op. Take baby steps. Nurture yourself and most of all ...... LOVE yourself.

Michele

I was also banded on 30 and have had a horrible time with the gas and effects of anesthesia. Like everyone said I think the blues are normal and we just have to suffer through them. I have been definitely having moments where I wonder if this was the best thing for me- I think prolonged physical discomfort, would make anyone feel sad! Hang in there and I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Brittney,

I was just banded on the 22nd and I know exactly how you feel. I just bawled the 2nd night (the first one I was fine - go figure). I have just been allowed to go on the mushy stage by my dr. and I feel guilty every time I eat...like I know I am on the right path, but my head still wants to sabotage and make me feel bad for having tuna or cottage cheese. Please know that this will pass, if you want to chat, please PM me...we are all in the same boat. I set up a blog at Bella5425’s Blog just so I could vent, bitch, cry, whatever...it helped. Stay strong! You can do it!

Katie

I know how you feel. I felt the same and to top that I had pneumonia and was hospitalized for 5 days. I cried every night thinking what have I done to myself. It felt so bad and my chest is so tight. I found out last Friday that the doctor put 2 cc of saline in my pouch and that is why I feel very tight. To give you some hope, today is 13 days out for me and I feel much better. I am still on full liquid diet eventhough my doctor told me I can try mushy.

Hang in there honey, this too shall pass.

Hugs...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
