Two years down/year three starting

I know many of us have dropped off the forum since 07. I wonder sometimes how they are doing.

For those of you left, how are you doing? What's your goal for year 3?

Hi Manatee,

Yes, I am one of the May 07 bandsters who dropped off.

Honestly, I have been doing really good until I got married in January. I am a bit discouraged now because I have gained 10-12 pds since I got married. I was doing really good on my own. Only keeping the right foods in the house. Now I have tons of stuff in there that's fattening and not good for me. Gaining the weight makes me feel like a failure and I am a bit down on myself. Still, I am very glad I had the band done.

I am healthy again and I feel good about how I look. But, I feel like I am loosing controll and I don't ever want to gain back the 60 lbs that I lost. Help! How are you doing?

I have been lurking. I had a slip in June 08. Dr. unfilled me completly. I had 9cc in a 10cc band and was doing well. He would not refil till 4 months later and even then just 1cc per month for the first 6 months and a half cc per month since. I am only up to 7cc's now and just starting to feel restriction. I have gained 15 pounds since June 08.

Has anyone else heard on this SLOW refill policy. We knew that I needed an aggressive fill before. Why this 1cc a month?? I'm starting to think they enjoy the fill fees more then having me as a sucessful patient.

What is the plan with your slip Manatee?

Its been two years now since I got my lap band and I'm so grateful for having been given this opportunity. Today I weigh 175 lbs which isn't the lowest I have gotten but I'm still at least 80lbs lighter than I was. Sometimes I get so upset with myself because I'm 20 lbs heavier than my lightest weight but than I have to remind myself how far I have come. The advise that I would give to anyone who is just starting is that its not a miracle cure and we have to constantly work at it. If we do what we are suppose to be doing our band will do its part.

Violeteyes,

Just like me you have put a bit of the weight back on. But, like you I am so grateful for the weight that I have lost. I honestly don't think I could put all the weight back on that I lost because I just can't eat near as much as I used to. I need to learn to live without ice cream. I swear I could eat it 24/7!

Nope, this is not magic. The band takes work. I think before I got the band..no matter how many times I read that..I still thought of it as a magic cure! LOl!

Hi All,

I am struggling to be happy that I have gone a whole year without gaining anything. I did have a little gain (9lb) but was shocked into losing that. My weakness is Pepsi...full on , not diet....that I have let creep back into my life. Trying to limit it to 1 a day. Ice cream is a challenge too! I would like to have seen a better return on my investment (self-pay) than 50 pounds, but I too have to keep positive and relish the changes I have made. I did the Seattle Kid's Marathon with my girls in Nov and have been incredibly active inthe PTA. I would not have taken on these things prior to losing the weight. The cost of a fill does keep me from investigating if I need to have more restriction. There are a couple days a month where I can actually eat a sandwich or easily have Pizza Crust. Then there are days-like today- that I am struggling with grapes. ???? It is definately a change for the long haul. I also miss the support group meetings...I need to look into those again.

All in all I am happy I had the surgery. I am telling myself that I will lose another 40 at least before I attempt insurance approval for a a panniculectomy. :ihih:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
