I got banded today and I'm feeling great!!! I have the notorious gas pain everybody talks about, but I can handle it so far...

Does it tend to get worse before better? Because if this is it, that's AWESOME!!!!

My gas pain seemed to last about 3 weeks. I'm not sure why I couldn't shake it. My stomache is big - so maybe it required ALOT of gas to fill it? LOL

Anyway, I walked alot and took Gas-X strips and it helped it go away.

Take Care & Good Luck!

Thanks guys! Still feeling really good, took a short walk today and although this is gross, when I bend over, I can pass some of the gas which feels great!!! :)

I prayed and prayed for a smooth operation and good results- meaning the band will work the way it's intended and NO BANDSTER HELL!!! God is good!!!

Yes, God is good!! I prayed for the same thing - for weeks before and the whole four-hour drive to the hospital. :) And not only did my surgery go smoothly, but I was not at all nervous. I felt complete peace about it. My pain after surgery was minimal. I didn't have much gas pains, but I did feel discomfort when changing positions (from sitting to standing, and vice versa). But I was up walking way before the other two patients who had their surgery a couple of hours before me. He hears us and best of all - He answers!!

I had the same peace! I was shocked but everything went smoothly- even with insurance.

So you have a 4 hr drive to the doc for adjustments, or was it just for the surgery? I have a 2 hr drive. When did you get banded? How much have you lost?

You must be my solar twin but I'm twice your age. I was banded yesterday MAY 1ST too. The pain in the shoulder is almost gone. A little uncomfortable but not a lot of pain. I had a hernia repaired as well so a little tight in the chest which I was warned. Are you drinking a lot of liquids? That's real important so that we don't get dehydrated.

Good Luck

Are you sore in the upper part of your chest at all? My starting weight at preop ws 241 and lost 12 pounds on Protein Shakes. My BMI was 40 so I would like to loose 80 pounds. We got a long haul ahead of us and lots of learning too.

Do you have good support behind you?

Yes I am sore at my upper chest. I keep massaging it and that makes it better. I'm not too sure how much weight i want to lose...I have a good height on me, and I know I'm not trying to be skinny, so I guess we'll see. And yes, my family and friends are great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
