How long were you on liquids before you went to the mushie stage?

Recommended Posts

This is just my own little survey that I am hoping to give my dietician on Thursday when I go back 4 my 10 day post-op visit. I have noticed that the Mexican Doctors are more lenient with the liquid phase. Some of the American Doctors only require 1 week of liquids, 1 week of mushies, 1 week of semi solids, and finally 1 week of solids then you are on your own. Thanks for your participation. I am not concerned about the pre-op liquid fasting just the post -op diet.

Thank you,

Dee Dee

No mushies allowed on my diet. I had 1 week of straight liquids, then 2nd week of creamies, then added yogurt to all of that on the 3rd week. 4th week was straight to solids

My transition to solids was a 6 week phase.

2 weeks on full liquids, then started to slowly introduce mushies in. Like the first week of mushies, I could have mashed potatoes and stuff of that consistency. The second week, I could mush up canned spaghetti or have tuna mornay (which was absolutely devine!!). The 3rd week I could introduce lasagna and other caserole type dishes, as well as ground beef. The fourth week I could introduce solid meats, such as chicken, steak, etc.

It seemed like hell at the time lol, but in hindsight, it showed me what I could and couldn't do and really wasn't that bad.

My post-op instructions are as follows:

1 week clear liquids

2 weeks full liquids

1 week mushies

then see the dietian for next step which I am assuming will be semi-solids one week then on to solids.

We were told 2-3days clear liquids, then any liquids (and I mean anything including 'soda') for the rest of the first week, then 2 weeks mushies, and 1 week soft foods. But they served us coffee, ice cream and vitamized vegies on the second day in hospital - so really I had less than 24hrs on clear liquids and no time on plain liquids and went straight to mushies. I didn't stick to that for long either though - I was eating full meals 3 weeks out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
