Hi everyone. Having trouble chewing up those nasty calcium citrate wafers--just can't do it, so I bought some "petite" Calcium citrate pills which are still HUGE. Any suggestions? Is there another alternative? If they made a "gummy" calcium, I would loooovve it.

I don't know how far you are out from surgery, but at the 2-week point I was able to go back to regular Calcium and Vitamins, not chewable (as long as I had no difficulty swallowing them). Again, I don't know how far out you are, but talk with your doctor's office if you are struggling with the chewables. I thought I would be on those forever, was surprised I could resume the regular ones, but happy I could as I didn't care for the chewables!

I was having the same problems that you are. I knew I was supposed to be having calcium citrate and not Calcium carbonate, and all of the good, easy to get down calcium that I could find were always carbonate. I tried the wafers and the petites too and those didn't work. I finally found some cinnamon lozenges on BariatricChoice.com. They are not too expensive and I don't have to swallow them. They are called Bariatric Advantage Calcium and they are $19.95 for 90. I won't say they are a yummy treat, but I can suck on them and they stay down.... even in the morning. They do come in other flavors as well. Good luck to you!! Becky

I have had trouble with the calcium citrate Petites after my 3rd fill - and they caused my first slime! So, back to Viactive, but my Nutritionist says they don't give enough long term (esp. Vitamin D) for those of us in northern, not-sunny climes. I'd like any chewable, tasty alternative but LOVE the Viactiv, perfect treat 3 times a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
