Are there any other "Seniors" out there??

Recommended Posts

I am just beginning this process. My consultation appointment is May 11. I am 66 years old and have been fighting this battle my whole life and have finally decided enough is enough. Are there any other people my age or at least close to my age that have had this procedure and if so how are you doing?? :(

I am 68 , had lap band and hiatia hernia surgery about 5 months ago . I weighed 318 and have lost 68 pounds. I feel good, walk so much better, I had no big problems other then I have a admonial hernia that was too large to take care of at the same time although Dr Joyce was able to do the hiatial hernia that had been bothering me for years. Approval took 6 months , the test took a long time scheduling, stayed in hospital overnight, no problems, the next few weeks went by fast, I was learning to eat the band way and reading all I could about foods and so forth. Now I can go out to resturants and know how to make good choices and not feel left out. I was worried about that. I can walk good and am getting a 3 wheel bike, I am afraid of falling and injuring my knee replacements. I am off a lot of medicines and don't need my sleep machine, I have never regretted doing this .

I am 53 and have surgery scheduled for May 15th. I was much younger when I started the process. LOL Took forever to get it together and get insurance approval. I was a little concerned aboout my age, but seems that is not a big problem. I hope. Good luck to you.

I am way older than you. Don't be worried about your age. You are considered young yet.I was to have the gastric bypass several years ago but after a WLS Picnic I came down with a serious lung disease. My GP didn't investigate & put me on a medication that made the fungus in my lungs grow rapidly & also caused a weight gain of over 60 lbs. Now my health is in jeopardy. I would like to know from anyone asap if the banding is covered or partly covered by insurance. I can't afford it but my health is seriously compromised. Someone told me it was & another said "no" What is the real truth? I cannot get my surgeon's assistant on the phone. Signed "Desperate"

I am 64---had surgery in 07--can't complain. I have recommended this surgery to many people. Just keep focused. You can fall off the wagon by sneaking in even good snacks---Good luck and hang in there----you.ll have a good life soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
