November 2008 bandsters? Checking in.

Recommended Posts

Well it's 5 months since most of us Nov 08 bandsters have had surgery. I decided to check in and see how everyone is doing.

I've stalled out ... but it's my own fault not the band. I'm still trying to get my head around night time snacking and adhere to bandster size portions. But I've had some success and I'm not giving up.

To jumpstart myself -- I just ordered the Beck Diet Solution Workbook. And I need to make sure if nothing else I write everything down -- on good days and especially on bad.

But even when I feel out of control I feel way more in control then I ever have with food. And even when I wander off the path a little -- I feel like getting back on is so much easier. The comfort of sort of having it together is the best thing about the band. That and buying a tshirt from Target the other day that not only was in the non plus size department but didn't have an "X" in front of the "Large". I will say I do miss pizza though. Way more than I ever thought I would.

So how is everyone doing? Good. Bad. And a little mix in between?

I had my band done on the 13th of Nov. I have lost 42 pounds. I had a small fall back also i had all my Fluid taken out on my 3rd fill due to me getting sick soooo much. I did start again with my fills (I have 4cc in my 10c band) so i hope everything is back on track!

I had my band placed on November 19th 2008 and I have lost 101 pounds, so far. My wife had her band placed the same day and has lost 52 pounds. It has been great to do this together as we keep each other "honest" and support each other to get past it when you get the craving for munchies.

I had my job outsourced to India around the same time so I've been able to exercise everyday and watch the diet very closely and that is how I've (we have) lost so much weight.

It's great to buy "normal" pants and underwear now. My biggest problem is keeping a belt that can keep my new pants up. I bought size 40 jeans and found that they were too big, so, I went to a size 38, now even these are getting too loose! I have another 14 pounds until I reach my initial goal weight but I may continue to reduce my weight below that as I'm feeling very good and want to get down to a size 34 waist.

I must say that when I held the size 40 jeans up I didn't think I would even come close to getting into them by the looks of things. You know, when you hold up a pair of pants and think is this the right size? I thought, "well, keep working at it and you can fit into these". But, when I got home, I actually had room to spare! It felt really good. It's amazing what reducing your weight by 101 pounds can do for your body shape.

I had lapband surgery on November 20, 2008 and I have lost a total of 29 lbs. Weight loss has been slow, but it has been with little to no effort during the first 3-4 months. I am now focused and happy with my progress.

I am really happy that the likelihood of me gaining a lot of weight quickly is slim. I was sick and tired of yo-yo dieting!

Good luck everyone and keep on keeping on....

I'm doing fine. I've only had two fills and still don't feel ready for another. I'm down to losing 1 - 1 1/2 lb a week which is ok. I have gone through clothes way too fast and wasted quite a bit of money!! My appetite is small most days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
