Is it possible....???

Recommended Posts

I finally got the call, the insurance approved my surgery and my surgery is set for May 7th. I am so happy, there was no way I was going to change that date, I have been waiting a long time for this. Unfortunatly one of my closest friends is having a wedding on May 8th. My surgery is outpatient and will be the first one of the day 7:30 am Thursday, is it possible to go to the wedding Friday evening? I plan on just attending the ceremony only. I am 42, pretty athletic and strong, I can handle pain very well.

Thanks in advance on any advice, I will of course know on Friday if I could go, just trying so find out what you felt like about 36 hours later.

I was tired but not miserable. I had to stay overnight in the hospital and dozed quite a bit off and on. Personally I am totally on the fence lol which is of no help I know. If it was me I think I'd try it at worst you make an appearance and then leave.

i spent the night in the hospital when i had surgery too, but mainly i slept. The biggest obstacle you will have is that you will be tired after sitting for a couple of hours. It will be possible for you to go, just realize that afterwards you will be exhausted... but it will be worth it to see your friend married. You'll be fine! go for it! :-)

I wouldn't do it. You are not going to feel your best and if you are like me, your stomach will still be distended from the gas they use during surgery (i.e. good luck looking good in your dress)! I'd push the surgery date either back 2 weeks if you can, or forward a week. If it's one of your best friends, you don't want to be suffering through such an important event.

I would have been able to go the same night. Someone else might not have been able to go for a couple of days. I'll let you in on a secret...a lot of it is in your head. If you simply operate on the assumption that you may feel a little tired, and maybe not up for a bear hug but basically okay, you will likely do fine. Just don't drink. That just might be too much for that soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
