I am so upset with myself!!!

Recommended Posts

I have gone the 3 months that is required by my insurance company. Kept all my appointments, had my tests done and have my appointment with the doctor on May 6th prior to a surgery date. BUT......I am missing a weight from 2005, 2008 and 2009 plus now the insurance company wants a note from another doctor stating the surgery is medically necessary. What is being over 100 pounds overweight, if not medically necessary?? I am and have been very non-compliant with going to the doctor. I am just beside myself over this. The worst part is that I realize it is due to my own stupidy!!! Does anyone have any suggestions for me???

Thanks a bunch

Dot

Have you checked everywhere for the records? Even ER visits? or like weight doctor...if you are over 100 lbs overweight you should qualify...whats your BMI is it over 40? thats what alot require... and you might need comorbidities- ex reflux, PCOS, diabetes, something like that

All it has to be is when you have gone to the doctor for anything and they always weigh you. Tell them you need a paper with your weight on it when you were seen at there office. Tell them what you are trying to do! That is what i did and that is all they needed. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I have a 43 BMI (5'3" and weigh 245Lb) I have not been to the doctor in better then a year. I am so non-complient!!! I think we can come up with the 2005 but the 2008 is the real problem!!

Keep your fingers crossed for me!! I'll keep ya posted and again Thank you

I'm so sorry that you are having such a hard time getting qualified! just keep your head on the end result, and if we didn't have a hard time getting there it wouldn't be nearly as good in the end! I know its soo tough just keep fighting you deserve to be happy and healthy!

KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND KEEP TRYING!!!! It took me from Nov 21st last year to April of this year to get everything done and turned in and approved....it's worth it though now that I'm post-op and on the other side....all you can do is try!!!

Ok, i am young, so insurance for me is HARD to come by a lot of the times. So I had no record of weight just my prego weight which was kinda low. What i did have is photos of a couple years ago.. (always been overweight like the majority) so they too my highschool grad photo and wedding photo and believed me:)

Dont stress..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
