Does anyone have some good ideas for the mushies stage? I was banded 4/22 and had my first post-op today. My DR said I can start doing mushies in the next few days, and I want to have something to look forward to!!

If you haven't found a Protein Powder you like, try Unjury and then, with a good food processor/blender...create some delicious fruit smoothies and/or shakes! 1 scoop of vanilla powder, 8 oz of 1% milk and a half cup frozen strawberries...yummm...cold, goes down easy and keeps ya full for about three hours. Also, Unjury is a Protein ISOLATE rather than protein CONCENTRATE...makes all the difference in the world!

The best food I had in the mushies stage was low-fat refried Beans mixed with a little chicken broth to thin it out topped with a little shredded cheddar.

That meal was heavenly after a lengthy liquid diet . . . probably the best food I had ever tasted, lol. However, I never ate it much before or after the mushies stage. It just really hit the spot at that time.

I do mashed potatoes and gravy on mushies with some fat free sour cream BUT the carb count can be high in the potatoes so don't get carried away.

I find that they are easy to get done on tough days and are filling.

I also do the refried Beans. I get mine at Taco Bell and load them up with sour cream, nacho cheese and a bit of the ground hamburger. Again, don't get carried away. Remember to keep the portion small and don't be afraid to put it in the fridge for later.

Applesauce, SF pudding, anything pureed as well.

MY doc (now this is mine and perhaps yours does not feel the same so check with him) said that anything that could be pureed and thinned was fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
