How many have had Gall Bladder Surgery.

Did you have it after/during/before the lapband surgery?

Did you have any issues afterwards .. nausea .. dirreaha, etc

Reason I am asking. My surgeon wants to remove my gall bladder next week. My wife found a few people had good results afterwards, but alot of people were miserable afterwards. I have some small gall stones, but they don't show to be inflamed. I am having alot of pain though.

Get it removed. It's a simple surgery and when you lose a lot of weight, chances are you'll have problems down the road. I did. It was from drastic dieting and now I don't have to worry about it.

I would get it done. I had mine taken out about 3 years ago, it was very easy, I was in the hospital for 1 night and then went home and was up and about in 3 or 4 days with no pain. I felt great after it was done! Just get it done!

Hi:

I had my gallbladder out almost 9 months after banding. It was day surgery and it was a piece of cake. The pains went away and the recovery was easy.

My surgeon said I could put it off, but it could become emergent (spelling?) if I had an attack again. I've had no aftereffects from the gallbladder - no change except pain gone.

Good luck.

I love my band!

Sue

I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery six years ago...complicated by pancreatitis and an inflamed liver.

It was after going on the Atkins diet.

I waited and waited and got sicker and sicker. I was an EMT and knew that something was wrong....but I guess medical professionals really do make the worst patients.

Get it out...the sooner the better.

My 80 year old hospital roomie got her gallbladder out on the same day as I did. She went home that night. I was in the hospital for a week.

Hi,

I had my gallbladder out 4 weeks after delivering twins. I had, had 3 attacks which were the scariest and most painful experiences of my life. I thought I was having a heart attack.

The surgery was a breeze. I was given the option to stay overnight in the hospital or go home the same day. Since I had 2 newborns at home, I choose to stay in the hospital that one night so that I could sleep. I went home the next day, and was fine within 2-3 days. The wounds were tiny and healed within 10 days.

This was all preband.

The pain from my gallbladder was worse than ANY other pain...and I had both of my children without any meds - au natural' - I was never so thankful to have something out of me!!!! Overnight stay in hospital and then the next day I was up and taking care of my newborn! It's such a relief after you have the surgery, that you have nominal pain with your incisions. DO IT!!!!!

My gallbladder is OK for now, knock on wood.

However, many of my friends and some family members have had theirs taken out. All of them had said that they felt 120% better after having it removed and the previous gallbladder attacks were miserable experiences.

i just dealt with having mine out- heres an overview i posted in another thread

i was visiting family 2 weeks after my surgery. i drove to san antonio from houston with my mom and my 18month old. my back pain got progressivly worse all day. i thought at first maybe it was from the band, since that was the longest id driven since the surgery (and i drove from louisiana to houston the day before) it ended up so bad that i couldnt even make it home from san antonio- we had to stop and get a hotel room. that was wednesday night. thursday morning i felt better, but by the night it was getting bad again. i woke up at like 430am friday in the worse pain of my life- worse than my 36hours of back labor even- and throwing up. i had my mom take me to the ER.

after shooting me full of pain meds (major ones too) and testing me all day, they figured out it had nothing to do with the band, but it was acute pancreantitis and that was either causing or caused by gall bladder issues. they wanted to wait til the pancreantitis got better (which it didnt. i had a continuous narcotic drip, and they ended up giving me a pump for the meds too) to do surgery. i was NPO til tuesday. it was torture, i would have done anything for even a piece of ice. anyway, they did surgery on tuesday, and when i woke up, the back pain was gone. it was heaven... and i got to drink.

the bad part was i then ended up having to stay in houston for 2 more weeks til i was able to drive back to louisiana on my own.

i had never had any gall bladder problems before, although i found out during my hospital stay that my dads family has a history of gall bladder problems. the doctor said most of my pain probably wasnt from the gall bladder itself, but from the pancreatitis and whatever was up with my liver (the enzymes were really high, whatever that means) but after the surgery, all the pain was gone. i was exhausted, and sore from the surgery, but nowhere near the pain i had been in.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
