Can't seem to get the right amount in band

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded in July of last year. For the past four months, I have been going back and forth to try to get my fill at the right level. Either it is too loose and I can eat anything I want, or, it is too tight, and I can't keep anything down. I got really mad because my surgeon took a total of 4 cc's out of my band. I could eat anything I wanted, and had no restriction at all. He told me to restrain myself. Ha! If I could of restrained myself, I would of never paid $14,000.00 to have the surgery in the first place, duh!!! I ended up gaining back about 15 pounds of what I had lost. I recently went back and got another fill, and now, for the first time in four months, I do have restriction that is not too loose or too tight. Has anyone else had the same problem? My surgeon is Dr. Richard Collier in Conroe. I would love to hear if anyone else has experienced this type of problem. Thank you.

The problem I see is that when you get too tight, which can happen, some doctors are very radical in how much saline they remove. The truth is as little .2cc of saline can make a ton of difference.

I agree, and by the same token, my advice would be to try tiny tiny fills, like .2cc.

It seems in the States because fills cost you guys so much money and insurance and the like is so tedious that the usual practice is for much bigger fills - and I think fluoro is a bit of an issue too. Filling your band to the point where it *just* empties right on the screen shows one thing - that it's not blocked at that particular moment in time. It does not prevent post fill swelling and trouble and I think it actually encourages over aggressive fills. Restriction is best approached very cautiously - with teeny tiny fills and you will probably find if you have a smidge, settle, get used to it and then go back for another smidge more, you'll tolerate it a lot better than if it were all put in at once.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
