Continuous Kidney Stones

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have been on here before when I was first "stoned". Got my information, read, read, read some more. I thought I was done after they did lithotripsy and a uteroscopy at the same time. Water Water Water. Had a follow up scan 7 months...guess what they're baa-ack!! Can somebody tell me waht is going on with my body? My stone profile shows no risk of developing stones, yet here they are...not just one but multiple stones on both sides. Is this a result of the band? I have no family history of stones, I have cut 10 grams of Protein from my minimum, take no Calcium supplements. I want to get to the cause not treat the symptom. My right side continually aches, I feel like crap most of the time. My leg bones(femurs) hurt. I am demoralized, depressed (situational I am sure) over this. BUT I am 63# lighter because of the band. I am at my sweet spot I believe.

I feel so lost that something so great has happened to me and something so bad is developing. I drink my water, I know I am getting enough. Has anyone else had this happen to them:scared2:?

Any input, info, other stories like mine would be so appreciated. Do I go to my surgeon? My PC physician? My Urologist?Endocrinologist? Nephrologist. Thanks a bunch all for listening to me whine.

You have cut 10 grams of Protein from your minimum, but what is that level you are trying for?

I would definitely talk to your doctor. My wife had a friend go through the same thing after her bypass and he cut her Protein back considerably. While she may have been targeting 70grams, she was probably getting anywhere from 50-90 in a day. Her doctor told her 70 was a good target, but some people need more or less.

I have not had continous kidney stones, but I have had two bouts with the misserable lil monsters. I have begun taking Vitamin C as per the instructions of my Primary Care Provider. My PCP did also ask if I was taking in alot of Calcium, my stones were calcium. I was not taking in much more calcium then my prenatal Vitamin.

When I talked with my Surgeon about the kidney stones he indicated that kidney stones are not all that unusual after lapbanding, but didn't indicate that was the cause. I have upped my Water intake, especially when I workout and that seems to be helping. Keeping up with drinking water can be difficult somedays. I hope you can find some answers. Do you know what type of stones you have?

I have or rather my Doc did not have the stones analyzed. I want to ask why and can he have the stone pieces I "mined" analyzed. I have cut back Calcium, even tho I am post menopausal I take no supplements. I have spoke the the nutritionist and honestly she forwarded me the stuff to avoid (dark leafy greens). I am looking for sources of Protein that is not animal.....soy & Beans.

A vegan I am not but it seems to me that alot of people just accept the stones as a part of life. Me I can not live on pain pills & soy so I must change what is causing the buggers, and pray it is not the band causing them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
