Eating more Conservative Post OP than Dr says?

Recommended Posts

I am not post band (yet!) but I met with the nutritionist yesterday and she was explaining the process. They are not as conservative pre and post op as what I have read here. There is no pre op diet and post op is 2 weeks FULL liquids (no clear liquid stage), and then to mushies.

I am leaning towards maybe being more conservative as long as I can stand it and do at least a week or so on Clear Liquids then to full liquids. I really don't want to have anything screw this up for me!

Has anyone been more conservative than their dr. recommended with their post op diet?

I had my surgery on 4-16-09. I suppose to be on liquids for 3 weeks. I can tell you I don't know how I'm gonna make it although it probably would not be so bad if I was able to do the protien shakes but I just can't stand them. I'm forcing myself to use the Isopure Protein and the Protein Shots but I know I'm still not getting in the full amount. I'm so ready for mushies.

My surgeon was also lenient, and I haven't had any problems yet and I am 9 months post op. No pre op diet. One week clear liquids, 1 week full liquids, then mushies for a week. But, if I was "starving", I was told I could soft scramble an egg on day 8 and if I tolerated it and it stayed down I could move to mushies. I did fine with it and was thankful.

It will not hurt you to be more conservative than you doctor requires. By all means try it. If you can't handle the clear liquids, then know you can go on and move on to the full liquids with your doctor's blessing. Good luck and consider yourself lucky!

Hi I had my surgery the 21st, I wasnt required to do pre-op diet , I stayed overnight one day and day of and next day was clear broth and sugar free Jello, i did broths and cream Soup jello sugar free pudding the next few days til the week post op appt the Dr said I could start eating some solids. oatmeal is awsome. I hear different things from people I think if you stay on the soft liquid longer youll lose more weight . Goodluck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
